Have You Ever...

Have you noticed that, in this age of information and disinformation, you can find an article, video, statistic, "scientific review", chart, or blog to support any and all of your personal biases?

I would like to see critical thinking skills come back into vogue.

Questioning ones beliefs and biases is the only way one can truly break through self imposed limitations and fears.

Ancient wisdom has a philosophy that states, "watch your loyalties and your prejudices"

Any thing, including ideas that you attach to, have the potential to cause you suffering.

Best question in the world?

Why?

Why do I believe that?
Why do I need to cling to that thought?
Why do I have that fear?

Etc....

Hi gypsy ' how are you ?
You are young and beautiful enjoy every moment of this. Life is too short to be worried about small things wave
Hi Ali, you are right, of course. I am best off minding my own business.

There's no sense in wanting the impossible, is there? Lol
Hello Gypsy, wave wave I find in todays world there is a constant supply of thoughts and ideas, and an endless stream of people telling you what to think. I myself tend to think, I put faith in what I ve personally have seen or experienced, and believe in those people who I put faith in. And I do believe I m entitled to have an opinion, based on my judgement, not that of others, and if I m wrong, I figure I m open minded enough to change. Sure hope I m not sounding like a miserable old man yet, rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
I do not question myself that much. When i'm about or into something, i go for it ready to learn on the way and prepared for unexpected. Too many questions would only keep me delaying. I have experienced how the Universe set the things for me on the right place, when i did not have a clue how to do it and i just let go. I believe that i don't have to know it all.
Gypsy , i looked the places u told me before on the google ,it is so pretty area ,peaceful and relaxing hug
with so many sources for questionable information available, it's not difficult to believe, narrow eyes believe what suits them.
in addition to articles, altered photos are another crock.
and, blogs are like dog food. some have no fillers and others are more chicken meal than beef in a bag of Beef Chunks.
Yes, its now easy to say- I've thoroughly researched the issue... which translates to skimming over the first three google search results.
i once wrote a fictitious Wiki article, for fun
I love when I find information which makes me question long held beliefs and assumptions.

I want to be made to question things.
Otherwise I may see things one-dimensionally, and that is never a good way to go through life.
1to1, I'm with you on that score. I have my preferences and still have a fair amount of beliefs, but I am endeavoring to question any belief I have that is not based on what I have experienced.

Most of the time, that isn't all that reliable as in one instance a circumstance might turn out one way and then a similar circumstance will turn out completely different from the last.

Like Bloody wrote. Probably best to rely on inner nudges and then learn from whatever shows up.

Bloody, I think you have the right idea! Keepin' it fresh applause
Free, yeah, there is so much information out there that people write just to see who is gullible enough to believe it. Trump does have a point with the "fake news" thing, however, his fake news is whatever doesn't serve him and his real news is whatever serves his agenda. That might not be the wisest way of discerning truth. Lol
Hehe, KN, you know what I was getting at. I bet I can guess the relationship status of those types, too. :D

I love it when someone 'gets' me. grin
Exactly Pat...and by skimming I mean skimming until I find a Google result that agrees with my point of view in the first paragraph. Lol

Hi Molly! Yes, I am beginning to seek the opposing view whenever I feel myself gripping onto my long held beliefs. It's an excellent practice. I feel more open minded everyday! Hehe
Yes, Ali, lots of beautiful places in Colorful Colorado. :)
G. The ancient Greeks, and the German dielectics knew. Thesis, antithesis, synthesis. It ain't exactly brain surgery. Aa.
Aa, well, the ancient Greeks knew but I'm betting most people nowadays wouldn't even know what the hell that quote means.
Those questions are the most potent tool we can avail ourselves in discerning the truth on just about everything in life. Only when we ask ourselves these questions that we can truly understand why such and such exist, for whom and for what.

We just have to be careful that we don't prevail and limit ourselves with our own bias and prejudices. Instead we try to put ourselves in the shoes of those we question. Only then we can truly understand why things are such.

Great blog Gypsy. wave
Thanks, Lindsy!

Yes, I agree. I know I can get stuck in my own loyalties and prejudices. It is a constant practice to notice and question them as they come up.

Some, I find, I am just fine with at this point in time.

I've done so much studying and find that as soon as I get hooked into a belief now, something invariably comes along to knock me off my perch. :)

Welcome Gypsy, there's nothing more paralyzing than getting boxed into a certain beliefs or prejudices and to top it off, refusing to accept what is.

Sure we all have our own individual choices that match our own differences and that's alright, too. Heck we're all different but allowing ourselves to be diversified in being comfortable with our own skin, is also a support to whoever we are. Having more tolerant attitude towards others can only enhance our relationship with whom we choose to be with. Otherwise, we also have our inherent choice to live as a social misfit or hermit.
But by enlarge we're all made to live amongst our fellow men. It's best we cultivate positive attitude amongst all of us. Having said that, we do have to be on guard and know and be careful about those who want to hurt us.

And I do love good debates too, do as not to rust my mind. cheers

I have seen a few of their vids here and there, so I can't answer that absolutely. Some is political and some is regarding unfair treatment of this or that person and some is regarding the monetary system....it goes on and on. It's like if Entertainment Tonight was all angry and self-righteous
Ok, I've never watched Entertainment Tonight is that on You Tube too?, but I think I get what you are saying.
Are these all American shows?

Do people actually believe what they are saying though?
They are American shows and many people do believe all they say. Some points they make are valid, so it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff
why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous? dunno
