The Great Escape

Hollywood loves to recreate history...the great escape happened during WW2 but was not depicted acurately...as they say...it was inspired by this historical event...

Problem is...very few people in regards to WW2 are alive now...leaving many youngsters without an appreciation of what really transpired...real life accounts of wartime...so I have posted a video clip of the Great Escape...

Yes it is approximately 1 hour long but interesting...

Cheers

Loulou, I can tell you from personal experience story telling is not an easy thing, especially if you are trying to stay true to the times. In the case of a Hollywood movie you have dozens of people all wanting say. Actors who want a bigger roll, critics who think they know better, and studio heads afraid they might alienate a potential ticket buyer. It all goes into the mix.

Thanks for your input...I do understand all that goes into making a movie...if it is too boring...they need to keep the audience happy...but I would like to see a mor honest portrayal of historic events...like Kent Taylor's dilema in Iran in 1979...the film Argo did not depict the Canadian Caper acurately at all...the CIA got those Americans out in his movie...not the Canadian embassador...will people remember such acts of real life courage?...

Will post an interview regarding Kent Taylor...RIP...he died at age 81 not too long ago...
YES, playing to the mythology of the times is the best way to increase ticket sales. For awhile it was all westerns, then war movies, mobsters hung out for awhile, vampires were really big and only lately have the walking dead stopped walking. What's up next, I have no idea. Maybe I should tune in to more Ted Talks. LOL
Yes
There seems a definate trend in what is popular...regarding themes...

The walking dead or vampires seems to be popular...lol...laugh

Much rather like material closer to real life...but do like the godzilla pictures...laugh...

putting history into screen by Hollywood they always got it wrong

maybe on purpose
another example, WW2 movie The Battle of the Bulge.

This happened during December 1944 under the biggest snow storm in Europe in 40 years or so.

But the movie lacked of snow is visible, maybe a patch here a patch there of snow

Sometimes it is about money...I think it is a shame that historical movies are not more realistic...closer to the truth...Argo the movie is a prime example...a slap in the face regarding the real hero...Ken Taylor...

Thanks for your comments...
