Adventures in caving, or spelunking

My favourite hobby by far is caving. It's a little bit more challenging than the hiking, and scrambling I normally do. Caves are very fascinating to me. Recently, I explored the ape caves at Mt. St. Helen's national park. The caves were chilly, and damp. Moss covered everything, which is classic for Washington state. These caves are a little different from traditional caves that are carved out by water mostly. These caves are old lava tunnels. You can still see where some of the lava flowed out of the rocks, and solidified. It was a intresting experience climbing over rocks, and crawling through tunnels. I got a little banged up, and muddy, but it was a fun adventure. I especially liked the way the light came down from openings in the ceiling, and made the place look even more enchanting. Any one else been caving?

Time ago I worked for many years as ecoturism guide and speleist guide here in Brazil, in São Paulo & Minas Gerais states especially (big cores of South America): it was/is a big adventure not only for an understanding and knowledge (and research surely) of unexpected places of Nature (beauty, admiration), but sport (many kind of challenges), education and pedagogical formation (levels of conscience) of people.
The caves are a truely journey into the time, a rich universe to be explored, learnt and "tasted"...

Thank you for share your (precious) experience! pointing
Head for Yucatan in Mexico; more cents and caves per kilometre than any place in the world...just fantastic. Many will require scuba gear the closer you are to the ocean.
Found an accent pre-historic cave while repelling down amounts in Rhodesia during an op. It was filled with paintings and hand prints. The archeologists loved it. The Red Sea coastal areas has many still unexplored caves into the Gulf of Aden including ancient shipwrecks both in water and on land. Natives are at times gun happy in that part of the world...but that is part of the excitement...laugh
CENTS and caves!laugh
3rd try...CENOTES ! frustrated
I use to cave and free face a lot, then decided I need a little money to take it to the next level. Now I am looking to get on a circuit. I bowing to you never done any lava caving. think I could join you...?
