or language is devolving and communication evolving
Speaking from the perspective where I live, the grammatical mistakes are understandable. There aren't many opportunities to speak English here. What does get on my nerves is the idiotic new-age spelling that has spread via all the texting. Abbreviations are fine but the stupid way of spelling is just plain lazy, specially so given the fact that all smartphones have auto-correct/auto-complete options as well.
That text speak has a history dating back to sending wire.
People were charged by the character so these abbreviations came from a necessity to save cash...
So I suppose if you take credit plans restricting the amount of texts per month The same can be said.
Wouldn't ya know money has a hand in this Dumbing down of Society.
I was reading a while back about a Professor who reckons that Language will take a turn.
But he says The simpler a language the better.
There was even a short lived movement a while back that were trying to have a symbol added to keyboards to replace the word "The"
What a Lazy Crazy World.
Our local language "Urdu" hasn't had such an effect on it though thankfully. I mean it has evolved and also gotten distorted a little along the way but still intact for the most part. Very few people text in Urdu though.
so now I write in short hand, I was told if you can read back what you wrote you are ok
I cant find the professor article.
But the jist of it was that he would not down mark students for using certain Text speak ! as he said the purpose of language is to communicate and if the papers he received where communicating the ideas clearly then the vessel is a moot argument. I dont agree with him. But then again I'm not a professor.
To be honest I'm Really bad at languages
Your doin fine , At least you use stops and commas
That's a few steps up from some I have seen.
But like the prof says is the idea is transferred without confusion. Job done.
