The United States of America...REALLY!

That declaration I have never truly understood. To me, United is (One). Here in the (United States) each state determine their own laws...etc. Maybe I am way off in my thought...The laws should cover The United States of America...the reality is each state has their rules...HOW is that United? Bring your opinions on!

Change the name to "Bits of America" or "What a State we´re in America"
"To Put It A Simple Short Term?"

"Its The Same Idea As NATO"

"An Attack On One"

"Is An Attack... On Us All"..................detective
As I understand it, ONE Union was formed by SEVERAL states.

Note I said 'was'.

After the Civil War, the Union became more of a monolithic centralized government.
Eveidence - Prior to the Civil War, the U.S. was referred to by the pronoun 'they'; since the Civil War, the U.S. has been referred to as 'it'.
Words do have meaning, no? And power.

Also, some time after the Civil War a clergyman composed the Pledge To The Flag...so Murkuns could proclaim their unity.
In the 1950s, politicians added the words 'under God'...which have since caused some degree of dis-unity.
Go figure dunno

From my understanding, the original idea of each state having it's own government comes from the fact that England had complete control over the entire country. When the declaration was signed, it gave more powers to each state to govern themselves as a sign of freedom from the federal government. This prevented any president of the United States from taking complete control over the nation. This was just another factor to differentiate the new "America" from the old England. This is only my understanding from what I learned in school long long time ago in an America far far away from what it is now.
We've perfected that 'self-gridlocking' thing to a fine art.

when the colonies started the war to kick british out they thought of every

colony as an independent body, 13 states, not as a whole.

during the war this created lots of problem for the ones running the war

not every colony agree to do this or that

all colonies were forced to be a nation, not 13 countries.
even to write the constitution wasn't an easy task.

every colony wanted their own power.

and every state has its own flag.
Mr looking2share, the laws that cover the entire United States are those of the Federal Government. The Constitution's Preamble says the federal government was established (and the Constitution was adopted) to “form a more perfect union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity. Each state has their own rules/laws/regulations, but ultimately it is the Federal Government that Congress makes the laws that are enforced over the entire 50 states. The Supreme Court of the Federal Government is the final stop that regulates all the laws enacted by Congress. It's similar to the EU Commission set up in Brussels, except the US doesn't regulate cucumbers.wink
Here in Canada, with 10 provinces, the laws from Province to Province, vary abit, but over all are all headed in the same direction. Economic conditions, population, geographic conditions vary, I think with all the varying conditions, laws vary some to fit the situation.
For instance, people who live in the far north, rely upon fire arms for obtaining food, and for protection from wildlife, (fire arms are common place) , where in the south , where firearms are not a necessity , how can you have one set of laws for two, different situations.
seaworthy: Thank you... I memorized the Preamble in the 6th grade.
