"SAMHAIN"..("SOW IN")

"Trick or Treat For Halloween...Were Knocking On Your Door"..............Halloween Goes Back Over 2,000 Years... To The Ancient Celtics... Of Ireland...(Yep...The Irish Are The Ones...Who Started Halloween)...With Their Festival Of... "Samhain"......Pronounced... (Sow In).....................Back Then..The Celtic's New Year... Began On... November 1st...

The Celtics Believed ...That The Night Before The New Year..(October 31st)...........The Boundaries Between The Living... And The Dead..... Would Become.... Very Blurry
And...They Believed That...On This Night Before "Samhain".... ......The Ghosts Of The Dead
Would Return To Earth

To Commemorate.... "Samhain"...The Celts Built Huge Bon Fires On The Eve Before November 1st
And Wore Costumes...(Usually Of Some Animal)

All Souls Day...Was Similar To "Samhain"...With Bon Fires...Parades
And Dressing Up As..... Saints...Angels ...Or Devils

All Saints Day Was Called... "All Hallows"..... Or ..."All Hallo Mas"...(From The Term...Alholowmesse)..(Middle English)
As Time Went On ..."All Hallows Eve"...And.... "Samhain".... Began To Evolve Into What It Is Called Today.....
Halloween

The Irish Immigration To America .... After The 1850s... And Onward.... Brought...And Reinforced The Tradition Of Halloween With Them
And By The Late 1920s...Halloween... Began To Take... Full Hold..In America

The Only Song That I Can Think Of.... For Halloween ....Would Be
"The Monster Mash"
Maybe There Are Other Songs...................But I Wouldnt Know

Nice pics, Nam

One thing - the tradition of dressing up and knocking on doors comes directly from Scotland, where the guisers ('kids in disguise') have been knocking on doors for centuries.

The Americans brought pumpkins to the table, so to speak - original lanterns were carved out of neeps (turnips)

laugh

applause
is plenty still knocking on doors but usally is bills of some sort ,, when kids we blackened faces with coal as was no money then to do much else fires still lit everywhere and turnips with just shell left with a face dut in skin with a candle in
