Zimbabwe’s New Cabinet Does Not Inspire Hope.

While Mr Mnangagwa has chosen to keep many of Mr Mugabe's former cabinet ministers in office, the new president has also awarded high positions to the military leaders who have previously supported him.uh oh

Zimbabwe Defense Forces Commander, General Constantine Guveya Chiwenga, is expected to become Vice President of Zimbabwe.shock

Sibusiso Moyo, the general who appeared on state TV after the military takeover and also the man who lied to the world by denying that a coup had taken place, is the new foreign minister; a very appropriate appointment, I'd say. Ah, it is also said that he holds a PhD in international relations, though I could not establish yet who awarded this degree. dunno

The head of Zimbabwe's air force, Perence Shiri, was named the minister of agriculture and land affairs. This soldier was linked to the mass killings of ordinary Zimbabweans during the mid 80s of the previous century while serving Robert Mugabe. Some 20,000 Zimbabweans died during this purge.frustrated

Patrick Chinamasa was reinstated as finance minister after Mugabe fired him a while ago.

War veteran leaders, who spearheaded mass protests to force Mugabe out of office, were also awarded positions in the cabinet. Chris Mutsvangwa is now the Information Minister while another became a deputy in the defense and security ministry.mumbling

And I suspect more military figures to be imported into the cabinet during the next few months. I think this is stage one of a few to follow. I may be a bit too skeptic about this but it does not look as if we can expect much for the better. On the contrary…sigh

Yes, Cat. Last head pol ruled for 37 years, bloodless coup, his second in charge now the top noodle, with military brass at top ministerial posts, no reconning ffor Mugabwe, and big-little Grace on the lamb-what could possibly go wrong? Aa-VKH.
Hi Kattte
Amazing! I'm looking at FF through new eyes.
cheers
Hi Vier,
I don't think there is anything else that could possibly go wrong but in saying that I'm ignoring Murphy's fourth law:
If nothing else can go wrong, you are overlooking something.grin
cheers
@Cat, it seems it's the same all over. In my home country, the Phils, the present leadership is somehow courting the military. When the military expressed their repulsion towards revolutionary govt as espoused by the present leadership, statement in support of the military was released. Last year there was an announcement of giving big bonuses to high ranking military officials. When people and the lower ranking army men asked why only them, it was withdrawn in the guise of no available funding. The military is being modernize now. But I just think it was the result of the effort of the past admi and the present one is taking all the credits. As the present Chief Justice is under impeachment process, our only hope is the military. It seems even the Congress and the judiciary is on their side. we're just like a small boat being oared on a rough sea by someone who's out to find safety for his family and cohorts. Seems like the same all over the world, greed and hunger for power. It just seems no end. Even if our govts do not inspire hope, we rush to welcome the New Year with a hope that there'll be a new awakening in all of us. bouquet hug
Hi Tatami, but what boggles my mind is the richer countries. In stead of putting pressure on these brutal regimes, they just give them more money to pilfer. Why can't they demand some value for their money in the shape of reform. By giving them money with no strings attached, they are only strengthening those regimes.

Sorry! I posted my comment without reading the others' comments. Aww, Mr. Forsyth, I was a fan of his novels back in my early 20's. I would always pray for a heavy good rain because the small bookstore half a kilometer from my college always gave out a bargain sale right every flooding days.Good to know some new info about him. And I just thought how creative and fertile was that genius of a writer!! Thanks for the share!!heart wings teddybear bouquet
