just a quick blog...for thought

If the light we see from the sun is 8 minutes old, that means the sun we see in our present time is not real?

What else may not be real?

Maybe some fake news. lol

Anyway, happy Saturday night you all.

To me someones death isn't real until it begins to sink in. Then when it does finally sink in you realize that that person is never coming back and you ask why not?
Does sunlight REALLY take 8 minutes to reach Earth...

just have a sec here...i'll double check my source on that mic
It is still real...just 8 minutes old.
Johnny,

your blog reminds me of what a friend in one of my stories, Ottmar, once said. He said he hopes to become an astronaut and travel to the Sun someday.

I warned him, "Ah, that's crazy! What about the extreme heat?"

He answered, "Oh, I got that figured out. The heat will be no problem, because I will go there during the night time." doh

cheers
I believe nothing is real and everything is an illusion.
It's all a matter of perception?dunno

Happy New year Johnny! wine
wave Dani!

The point is, sunlight isn't 8 minutes old if the sun is MUCH closer than 93 million miles!

I don't waste too much time wondering whether things are real or not.
If they seem real, and work for me, that's good enough for me cool
Mic, if the car wasn't real, then the money you paid wasn't either idea

Hi Johnny, 8 minutes dunno works for me.
The sun we see in our 'present time' is real, but it's the sun from the past. It's the same with everything else - the information we get from our senses, our thoughts and feelings... We live in the past. Our mind cannot experience 'now' ('the present moment') - it's outside of its reach. Everything has already happened. purple heart

Hello Nam,

That very well can be. What about life itself?

wave
Bear...thank you for sharing your perspective about death. It perhaps is something that needs more thought. thumbs up

Hello Mic,

I really do not know personally, I can just go by what scientists claim. In this case, Fritjof Capra in his book The Tao of Physics claims that it takes 8 minutes for the light to travel from the sun to the earth; therefore, "we see the sun, at any moment, as it exist eight minutes ago."

dunno

wave
Ek,

I agree.

However, what happens if something goes on with the sun and it is no longer real or exist as we always knew it?

Would it be still be real during that 8 minute period?

I bring this up because it almost can be looked at like we are watching some sort of video footage that was constantly recorded 8 minutes ago.

dunno

Hello Robert,

I think it was Icarus that once planned on traveling to the sun as well. I wonder if he wasn't as smart as your friend Ottmar, traveling to it at night. laugh

wave
Very smart Molly. thumbs up Just take it as it comes.

....but

for me. laugh

just curious I suppose
Tjee Johnny I never went to school long enough to learn this stuff wave wave wave
Mic,

I firmly believe we are as we are suppose to be....meaning, we are only meant to see what were are suppose to. Mostly likely, everything is probably as real as rain. laugh

So, your car was probably a good buy. thumbs up

wave
Good point with Mic's money Molly. rolling on the floor laughing
Hello Non,

I suspect, as light is traveling to us from the sun....as with the star light that travels to us being 1000's of years old....it allows us to see them.

Because the speed of light is not instantly seen, but takes time to travel, what we see that produces that light is not exactly the same as the present moment. ....because of the time it took for it to reach us.

For example, a star that we see in the night sky, in many cases, is 1000's of years old.

Now if that star exploded in a supernova and no longer exists...we will still see that star in the sky for 1000's of years later....even though it no longer exists.

Exactly Cach! laugh Brilliant stuff there. laugh

BTW, was that you dancing in there? Also, I swore I seen Robert in the background there too. rolling on the floor laughing

But....interesting stuff though.

Funny Molly....full of humor I see. rolling on the floor laughing
Wen,

Don't you ever what is going on with the sun today instead of waiting 8 days for it? laugh

wave
Now Maya, that is some interesting good stuff.

I realize because light takes time to travel, everything that we see has actually happen in the past. However, the closer the distance, the time it takes to see something is much shorter and it seems like there has not been a delay.

Light is a wave.

Interesting about the other senses.

Like hearing thunder in a storm. thumbs up

Hello Pepps. grin

Mic....see, even others think what is seen is not what it is to see. rolling on the floor laughing Great Twain quote. laugh

Scoobs....

Just because light beer is labeled light beer, it don't make it not beer, nor does it not make it a beer that is lighter than non-light beer, and it could just be the beer.

A little wisdom somebody once shared with me...your welcome. rolling on the floor laughing

wave
Same here Brit. grin

That is the beauty of the internet. We can learn whatever we wish to learn. We don't necessarily need a piece of paper that we pay $100,000.00 for the make us believe we can only learn in one place only. Not to mention, many books available. :)

Now....don't take everything in this blog as the gospel, it is only as I am understanding. Maybe that is the importance of that $100,000.00 piece of paper, it makes sure you are understanding correctly. confused laugh

wave
About time your message came through Robert. If only we could have reversed that delay...laugh

BTW Robert, were you involved with some sort of funky video in the late 1970's? You were spotted in the background of Cach's video she shared. You should check that out. thumbs up thumbs up grin

wave
Johnny,

if it looked like I had a sock stuffed in my pants, then maybe, but if not.. it wasn't me. grin
