Ethnicity

I've been reading so many profiles that say their ethnicity is caucasian or asian etc. I enjoy facts and one fact is that the above mentioned describe a person's race not ethnicity.. Ethnicity involves some form or cultural connection or belief system such as "Spanish" or "Jewish" or English" or Mongolian. There are multiple cultures in Asia so that is not an ethnicity. Most people seem to be confusing Race with Ethnicity. There are in fact only three races of humans on this planet. Negroid, Asian, and Caucasian.

I'm a 3rd generation Malaysian-Chinese. Dad's side - Fuzhounese. Mom's side - Hakka Chinese.

Hmmmm......so what's my ethnicity then? confused
I dont mind it actually.
That's an easy question, MiMi..
Your ethnicity is what language you speak.
So right now.. You are English! professor
so, what do you get when you add milk to your coffee?
Mimi, Asian sounds easier to say than all that laugh
Not having studied ethnicity in detail, because it doesn't really bother me. I was wondering which of those 3 groupings, Inuits would fit into.
Also other aboriginal people's like South American natives.
Are they considered to be Caucasian?
But Molly, Asian is not ethnicity, he said.
And MiMi was asking about her ethnicity. scold
Oh yeah, race I meant laugh
An interesting statement and it makes some sense but where do you place the original population of the Americas? Do they default to Asian just because they do not satisfy the criteria of the other two?dunno

Surely they left Asia too long ago to still be Asians.confused

Pardon my ignorance but it really puzzles me
cheers
Cat, that was kinda my question too. I don't know where Native Americans, or others, fit it.

My ethnicity and race and everything is very simple as we never strayed very far laugh
The original ancestral home is within an hour's drive away
Kal & Molly

I just see myself as being a Heniz 57 Variety i kid you not.

I'm a mixture of Native American,Irish and Scotish on my father's side and French,Canadian whatever else on my mothers side.I'm pretty that if I searched much deeper I'd most likely come up with more.I see myself of being not absolute.laugh I'm me that is all i know.
You'll need to take it up with the web designers. Those are the options offered for answering that question.
Mimi, you should state that on your profile so snooty

laugh
Westerners use what's called positive classification: any positive trait grants inclusion.
The other is Dichotomy: black vs white. Positive attributes are not considered.

People use it for religion, ethnicity, etc...
You either are or you aren't.

I think more than one box should be allowed or the question not asked at all.
Race is associated with biology, whereas ethnicity is associated with culture.
So, one race: HUMANS and as many ethnicities as you want.
But those are news so it takes time.
Haven´t you noticed anything moves fast in CS?
wave
mmm, well the Irish, Welsh, Scots & Britons are the surviving Celts, who predate the Gauls & Caucasians, hehehe!

Inuits & american natives are asians ...everyone alive outside Africa are kissing cousins, but you knew that didn't you, haha!
At the end of the day ,whats wrong with being human ,conversing
Yep.. Am neither but all..
