EARTH TO EARTH

I know strange title laugh have you ever heard the term Earth to then you say someone's name cause they seem to be not in touch with what you are saying.

In all my years here on the Blog's I have seen some well educated people and in great positions I really mean great and I am proud for you cause you worked and earned it.

I dropped out of day school cause I hated it and stayed a lot in detention grin but I did go to night school and got my diploma. Now I feel here on the blog's like It is highly educated verse educated. Please don't take this in the wrong way.I am just curious.

Just asking, do some people use real fancy words to impress others of there education or is that just the real you. for myself if you use a word past 6 letters I have to look it up to see what you said rolling on the floor laughing

For you who are well educated please never change,,maybe I will catch up with you someday.

handshake cheers

Hi JJ, no not looking for advice was just saying that some of us not as educated still play a part on blog's and it is not any ones problem to change just all want to be excepted and try to fit in. I mean no disrespect to anyone, and never will. handshake
Hi Wen
English is a second language to me and I'm very pleased when somebody uses a word I don't know yet. For that is the way I learn. But the vocabulary is just a component (is that too long a wordlaugh ) of a language. Anybody can memorize words. The crunch comes with the grammar and syntax. For me in any way. I know the rules; again they are easy to memorize but somehow I battle to always apply those rules. And then we did not even mention the life of any language, namely idioms and expressions.

What is also noticeable is the incorrect usage of words like there/their, to/too etc.

I don't think using long and fancy words tell us anything. It is rather how the speaker uses even simple words. Are the words in the right sequence ( the syntax) and are the tenses, declensions, punctuation, prepositions etc (the grammar) correct? And does he understand and use idioms and expressions? the richness of a language is here. Anybody can learn a lot of words but you need to know how to use those words.

I speak and write as I can and appreciate it if people correct me when I speak incorrectly.

Am I talking too much again? laugh
cheers
yeah thing is some that say little..but know lots .some educated some think their word is all important ...in real life now its different you have to mix and chat on computer anything goes
Whenever , one do not have to be educated with Diploma , Degrees , Master's and so forth .

To use big words

Reading expands ones' vocabulary

I am not educated , but I read lol
Catfoot, no you are not talking to much and what you said is good. I am just going to have to go look up some words laugh But I think most of the time maybe not knowing and understanding the words you can still get the message they are sending.

You are a professor well educated and proud for you but me as not educated words go over my head sometimes. but I do no this, that is my fought and mine only
@ JJ thumbs up some say a little but know a lot, I like that very good cheers
Hi Ann wave there is common sense, street smart. and learning a trade. fortunate for me I am talented at many trades which I learned and have always made a living at. but it is my own fought when I get frustrated when I see words I don't know. frustrated
That is natural for some people to speak like that , using big words .

One would know they are not putting on a show to create an impression for anyone .

Then it may have some people using big words , but they do not know the meaning .

But I think the most important part is , getting your point across .

There are many of us who could speak but we cannot write properly . just my thoughts .
id not worry about your writing anni theres not to many scholars about here
Wen,
Many English words are way over my head but I don't allow them to defeat me. I look them up to get the meaning.

And Annlee is right. Reading is the best way to learn new words. As long as you have a lexiconlaugh closeby
cheers

Btw
I'm highly intoxicated by the exuberance of your existence and if you don't seize this abundable attitude I'll be forced to horizontalize you perpendicular pretensions.
rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
Ann, that is good what you said as in what I said to Catfoot you can still get the message. you did answer one of the points in my blog when I asked are they trying to impress people, or is that just there real self. I would like to believe it is there real self hug
Catfoot, I got that very good. and I also seen all those words over 6 letters you put in just to make me look them up, sorry that would take all night. NICE TRY rolling on the floor laughing
Anyway, midnight here and bed-time. My gilded coach will soon turn into a pumpkin, yawn sleep
Catfoot good night my friend, I hope you have nothing but words you don't understand in your dream rolling on the floor laughing cheers
I don't know if I use big words or not. I just type the way I speak.
And if the appropriate word is more than 6 letters long, then so be it laugh
Hi wenever I use Earth to Earth quite often when I'm trying to get someones attention.laugh

As for using fancy words just to impress someone, never tried to impress anyone.I choose to be only me.

Hi Molly wave no don't change I believe you are what you are handshake

this is just a question,, do you think some use words to impress confused
Hi Bear wave yes on the Earth to Earth. never change from being your true self always stay focused. cheers
Maybe.

No, yes they do.

I have seen big words put into nonsensical sentences, just to prove the author knows them, but it actually has the opposite effect.

As long as sentences are clearly written, it doesn't matter the size of the words.

But English is a very rich language, and sometimes the appropriate word just happens to be long. Such is life
Nam, yes ground control I can hear you, have I got enough fuel to make it back laugh
Molly, I can see what you are saying, as I said earlier as long as you can get the message everything is good. but I have to admit there is times when I see a post and mostly in comments when I say to myself...What....but it is probably just me.

Thank you for your comment, and most was under 6 letters laugh
laugh Wen

I love the English language, so there is always the possibility of a long word, even a 2 or 3 syllable one wow
Molly, very good. you know it is good we can all communicate on internet as far as here on Blog's with translation. it's nice to be able to talk about our life and them also from all over the world can't get no better than that. handshake
Wen, I am always blown away by the level of English that some of the non-native speakers on here have.

The likes of Crazy; Mimi; Kal; Cat and others. It is easy to forget that English is not their mother tongue.

Their level is often better than those whose mother tongue is English. They rarely make either grammatical or vocabulary errors.

wine to them.
Molly, that is a very good point and much to have respect for.

Dang makes me feel worst now, they speak with such elegance .

Must have some affect I said a word over 6 letters laugh

Thank you Molly for your comments hug
Wen, we never stop learning.

I love if somebody uses a word I wouldn't be familiar with. I always look up its exact meaning, so I can use it if needs be in the future.

And on that note, I will leave you wine

smitten Hello Hun.

Anywho! I went to School and College. I learned bigger words. But! In my opinion. The bigger words doesn't ready mean much when you're talking to someone that do not understand those words. There are different types of bigger words. For example; Bigger words used in medical terms, Lawyer field and other professional field. But! For each professional, does not mean that two different people with different professional understand the other ones bigger words. Most likely because both of them study bigger words differently because those bigger words lines up with them only in their line of study. / Field.

After College! I was not interested in my major/ Field. I ended up being interested in Law Enforcement line of work. As a 911 Telecommunicator/ Dispatch. Having to learn there bigger words, Small words/ language. And talking by codes, depending on who I/ We is talking to. So! Words just depends! But just knowing bigger/ professional words, does not make a person more then another person.

This pass monday my sister in-law went to the Emergency Room because she had Pneumonia or the Flu. An Hour after she were there. Her lungs collapsed and she when into a Coma. And as of today! She is still in a Coma. Her daughter is a RN Nurse. My brother is not in a Medical Field of work. So! My niece/ which is my sister in-law daughter, has to explain things to him daily. Because he do not understand the doctors language/ Words. And she as a RN Nurse, Understand what the doctors is saying.

PS. No matter if the words are bigger. Just Remember This! There is always someone that can tell you what those bigger words means. Oh! And Google can tell you to!.....hug
Hi Wen hug
Yes, some people do what you said. Here and everywhere. I´m sure about that.
I´m very limited in english, as it´s obvious, I feel extremely frustrated most of the time but ....I do not have options, languages are tough for me.
Spanish, is a million times richer than english and my full education and cuture comes in that language so I´m almost a different person using it LOL.
My best friend (for more than 25 years and counting) says she still needs a dictionary to understand what I say hahahaha I do not do it for showing off (as I speak sleeping same way doh !) it´s just the way I do and that´s part of me.
I do not consider anyone more or less "important" due to words that person use or not...it´s quite opposite to my way of thinking.
My ex husband (one of the smartest people I know if not the most) used to say that culture doesn´t have anything to do with lingo but with reasoning ....I believe that and also believe that being a good person is not related to degrees or expressions....but the size of your heart and how you treat others..

Considering this, yours my friend, is HUGE...(as far as I know lol!) bouquet
Hi Angel wave first of all my prayers are out for your sister in law and all of your family bouquet you make a lot of sense in what you say oh yes we can always find out what words mean. I bet when you was a 911 dispatcher you heard it all and had to read in between lines to get information I know this could be a difficult position. the bottom line is being able to communicate handshake

Once again prayers for sister in law and you and family hug
Crunia I agree with what your ex husband said in these couple sentences:

My ex husband (one of the smartest people I know if not the most) used to say that culture doesn´t have anything to do with lingo but with reasoning ....I believe that and also believe that being a good person is not related to degrees or expressions....but the size of your heart and how you treat others..
Wenever
Yep! In my real life. I kind of still talk like that now. I have to catch myself! And try to speak another way.

Thanks! For Your Prayers.

And we are hanging in there....hug
Yeah @Bearwoman....he barely speaks and do not comunicate (runs in his family) but he is a good guy from whom I´m happily divorced rolling on the floor laughing
Hi Cach hug you always to me put things in perspective, and sounds like you did have a smart x husband. You know I am big on respect and love one for another, and language or culture should never come in between that. I have done nothing but praise higher education in my blog and comments but I am saying now to you people with out that higher education is not to be a forgotten people. It is with respect and love that keeps that bond and that is the only thing that will keep us in that communication. hug
Crunia rolling on the floor laughing I know several people who open their mouths but rarely communicate.laugh
@Wen, now you speak MY LANGUAGE wink

@Bearwoman, considering this ...I think I was lucky though because I did same thing twice LOL my Mute-ex-husbands rolling on the floor laughing
Hi Wen
But now you have me thinking. There is no point in writing if your readers cannot understand what you are trying to say. Big words are relative to the readers. I write the same words that I use when I talk. What some see as normal words may appear as very fancy words to others.

But fancy words are not the only problem. I tend to use too long sentences which also make reading difficult.

And that brings me to my question. Do I use a lot of words that you don't understand? You are a regular visitor to my blog. Do you have difficulty to read what I write because of the words I use?
cheers
Why thank you, Molly blushing

For being so nice to MiMi, you'd get to share my yummy cupcake! applause

Look!!! You're in luck, it even has got my teeth marks on it! grin

Wen applause

I studied up to high-school only, in a Malay medium school. What little knowledge of English I've learnt at school was not sufficient for me to survive on and that's why I was just a blardy waitress! grin

Also, coupled with the fact I was not overly ambitious and had ( in fact still am ) a lackadaisical attitude? uh oh
