I'm torn between

Courtly love:

This kind of love is originally a literary fiction created for the entertainment of the nobility, but as time passed, these ideas about love changed and attracted a larger audience. In the high Middle Ages, a "game of love" developed around these ideas as a set of social practices. "Loving nobly" was considered to be an enriching and improving practice.

courtly love was an experience between erotic desire and spiritual attainment, "a love at once illicit and morally elevating, passionate and disciplined, humiliating and exalting, human and transcendent

Mortification :

The voluntary offering up of discomfort or pain to God; this includes fasting, or in some circumstances self-inflicted pain such as self-flagellation. Mortification has a long history in many world religions, including the Catholic Church.

How about the hair-shirt?

Very fashionable in this day and age, where one can stumble around weeping and groaning over the troubles of others one will never meet, while being vicious, conceited and vainglorious to those one can reach.

The advantage is that one can claim permanent sympathy for obvious self-inflicted suffering and still look noble. Centuries of wearers can't be wrong.
Biff that's the most eloquent ,romantic , and heartfelt valentines message I have ever received

When can I expect the fllowers

So you took that personally? Interesting. I WAS taking a cat-swipe at a few numpties but oddly enough not you - I don't think you have ever posted on a news issue. I wonder if others will take it personally. I can in fact almost guarantee that the numpties won't.

Blue, I am mainly commenting to say please don't take it personally that I deleted my blog and am logging out. You weren't the cause, only a symptom.
Biff I had no idea your blog had a simular theme to a forum post
Was just posting what I considered a humerus comment

Go with self-flagellation to save your reputation.

That way no-one could ever accuse you of being effeminate(in being romantic), on a public blog. handshake
Pity berry that the bowing emoji is unavailable on my smart phone

I see your tongue is working well however...roll eyes
Biff, where did your blog go confused

Which seems strange as every topic has already been posted ,reheated , rehashed or microwaved at an earlier date
