more killings

it happened today in Florida, when will it stop. answer - it wont until some screw-ups are corrected. the first thing is the correct the interpretation of the 2nd amendment by the nra, the gun mgfs, the gun sellers, and the judges of the supreme court who were bought off by the above. ask the average person what does the amendment say, answer "I can have a gun". that is true - in part - what else does it state ( the part which has been ignored with the blessing of the supreme court ) how about - in order to maintain a militia. how many units of the militia have been formed or are in existence ? answer , none ! one thing the amendment does not say is - you have the right to kill people. maybe that is the whole ball of wax. i would recommend ( oh boy - am i ever going to receive rebuffs for this and what follows) a new law be enacted by congress , it is this: any person who kills another person with a firearm, automatically receives an irrefutable death sentence unless the shooter can prove without a doubt he/she was in harms way. mental excuse can not be considered , while it is probably the shooter is off his rocker for considering what is going to happen, and doing it.
i am not against a person owning a gun , i have owned guns, but i never had any desire to kill anyone whether i was concerned about the penalty or not. if the law was adopted , it wouldn't solve all the problems , but i believe if a person knew he or she would be put to death if they did the killing , and there would be no way of escaping the death sentence, they would think again.
in addition to the above law, i believe whom ever sold the gun , manufactured the gun ,or promoted the sale of the gun, or was responsible for the action to get the gun in the hands of the killer, shall be charged as an accomplice. think about it , i did not say take away your guns,i did not say the 2nd amendment was wrong,i only want people to be responsible and having a law that will make people think about the consequences could help.

It only seems to happen in America. I wonder why?

I heard on TV this morning, they're thinking of changing the law so you cant buy guns if you're on the terrorism watch list... Baby steps I guess.
I think here you have to jump through a lot of hoops to demonstrate you are a fit person to have guns, over there it seems you have to shoot some people before they'll take your guns away.
Sadly, its unlikely to be the last incident of this nature.
everyone could see it coming, but the Authorities,as usual were Deaf and Blind!

Yet another tragedy sad flower

"Guns dont kill. People kill"

Absolutely true.
But the easy access to guns allows them to kill easier.

Mass killings like this simply do not happen on a regular basis in countries with good gun control
really considerate of the Democrats, not even giving the Bodies a chance to get cold, before starting their political game again, trying to put more un-enforcable Rules on the Books to disarm law-abiding Citizens!
As if some 22'000 of them weren't enough for Criminals to ignore!mumbling
Hey conrad, you're flooding the site.
Easydog, good question handshake

Why do you think that the USA with 4.4% of the world's population accounts for around 50% of the world's mass shootings?

As you don't believe it is because the USA owns around 50% of the world's guns, it must be a different reason
We are a small nation, but we haven't had a mass shooting in over 27 years(since the Aramoana tragedy) resulting in stricter gun laws introduced by the government, immediately following the massacre. Like Australia, it's not easy now to acquire a firearm.....sure there will always be the black market, but generally the law reform has ensured there is less guns in circulation.

Tighter gun access is required. When is the US going to wake up?....obviously not whilst Trump is in power particularly when the NRA helped fund his election campaign.

....and so....the mass shootings will continue.....sad flower sad flower sad flower
FBI was too busy trying to take down a legally elected POTUS instead of taking care of of business!

very mad
Berry, thanks for your input, the U.S could learn a lot from your country, but probably there are not Republicans in charge in your country. studecarprofessor
Would any of these people bring up the issue of prescription drugs as a contributing factor?
Watch their networks.
Count the ads for pharmaceuticals.
Follow the money.

They're not gonna jeopardize their cushy jobs and we all know it.
If anyone reading this thinks otherwise - you're a very special kind of naive.

If anyone still doubts a connection between mass shootings & psychotropic pharmaceuticals...

Mass Shootings Psychotropic Drugs

Many links will come up. Take your pick.

Mic whether it is drugs or guns, it is a sign of an unhealthy society.
I simply can't understand why the problem cannot be discussed without people bringing party politics into it.
Until people come together and start really talking about what is wrong, and how to fix it, the issues will get worse and worse, until it reaches the point of no return.
well, there seems to be a panic buying of bullet proof backpack, parents are more than willing to pay big bucks to protect their children...but from what I've read those back pack won't be of much protection even with added textbooks from R-15 bullets...

there are also bullet proof diaper bags...soon everybody will be wearing bullet proof clothingsigh
The average Joe,(American citizen), has been raised in a gun culture.

From an outsider's view, common sense screams gun control, resulting in less guns in circulation, but Americans don't see it that way unfortunately. The problem is not going to right itself overnight. There's going to be more numerous mass shootings, more deaths, before taking action on tighter gun laws remains the only option left for them.

We can only look on in dismay as to what is unfolding in the US.
and the pointing of fingers...political parties against another busy blaming each other while their children are paying for it while adults trying to justify their right to have guns..

I can imagine the fears of parents in sending their children to school ...the unthinkable happened again and again , gun supporters even blame parents and teachers for failing their little ones...what is wrong with these people? I can only think they don't have children of their own...

how many school shooting and mass shooting have to happen in order to knock some sense into these people? imagine a world free of guns...yeah, it's delusional but it would be a wonderful worldsigh
Another aspect - and perhaps the most disturbing...

These mass killings appear to have something in common besides the use of firearms & psychotropic medication.

The attacks are on 'soft' targets.
The victims evoke strong emotions.
The attacks attract much media attention.

I'm not a profiler but I might suggest this has become, for lack of a more sensitive term, competitive mass killing.
Killers try to out do one another in numbers of victims, emotionally horrifying response and media coverage.

Schools meet these sick criteria remarkably well.

It may be time to seriously consider protecting school children/educators in a manner similar to that employed to protect other valuable commodities like, for instance, money.
Signs proclaiming schools 'Gun Free Zones' have demonstrably failed.

Gating school grounds, limiting access to those grounds via access points with metal detectors and staffed with armed & trained personnel charged with the protection of students & faculty could drastically reduce these incidents.

Simply, would-be competitive killers would be deterred from even attempting a mass killing if they KNEW they had little chance of achieving their objectives of body counts, emotional revulsion and fame.

Signs announcing this policy would contribute significantly to the deterrence...

Personnel Are Armed And Trained In The Use Of Firearms.
Any Perceived Threat To The Children
WILL BE MET WITH DEADLY FORCE

Americans are going to make doing what they want as convenient as possible. Placing the people around them in mortal danger is a small price to pay for desire, imo killing children for sport is an inevitable outcome of your predatory national attitude towards life and each other.
the problem is that those Substances are being tested under controlled conditions, before they are "unleashed" on to the general population!
While they probably do some good, there might be side-effects and interactions with other Medications,we have, and the Researchers have no idea about
More on the link to psychiatric drugs...

Doctors who prescribe these substances to people who subsequently kill should be held to account.

A few pulled medical licenses & lengthy prison sentences for 'script doctors' would strongly encourage these substances to be more responsibly prescribed...and the patients more closely monitored.
