This Is What She Wanted
Well, as they say, all good things come to an end. And this was a good one. I felt kind of sad when I took her home earlier. She’s leaving today and we said our good-byes. When I met her I thought it would be one or two dates and then good bye. I never dreamed that it would develop into such a pleasant encounter. I will remember her for a long time.Finding a suitable gift for her did not prove such a challenge at all. I must thank Stargazer for giving me the idea. Friday afternoon, after cutting the sketch that she admired so much into a rectangular shape, I left it on the dining room table where she could not miss it. She did not give me the opportunity to offer it to her. She asked for it; the only thing she ever asked from me.
We had it framed Saturday morning and collected it on Monday. I must admit that it looks better with the frame, but I still think the frame is worth more than the sketch. Mind you, it has moved up in value since it ruined a perfectly good panel saw while trimming the edges. It lost some detail at the bottom and the sides in order to get the edges straight. There was some sort of a ditch with some water on the foreground; part of it still visible at the bottom. The size of it is 618mm X 411mm.
The sketch has a rather obscure history. I did it out of boredom, on an irregular shaped piece of scrap asbestos left by the builders, while waiting for the fire to get ready. It took no longer than 30 minutes or so. I used a piece of charcoal from a previous fire to draw it. When the fire was ready, my uncompleted ‘masterpiece’ landed back on the heap of building scrap where it was in the sun, wind and rain for a few months. You can notice the discoloration on the left and top. It still needed plenty of work but it was never intended to survive.
When they eventually came to remove the rubble, my brother-in-law preserved my ‘masterpiece’ for greater honors by putting it in the garage where it stood collecting dust for another two years before a woman from Gauteng noticed it when I brought her home the first time. The rest of it is already told.
I hope it brings her the same sweet memories as her gift brings me when I listen to my music. My gift to her compares poorly with the Bluetooth speakers she bought me but this is what she wanted.
Well, cheer up. If everything go according plan, tomorrow will be Friday.

All things come to an end. We just don't feel sad when the bad ones come to an end.
Glad that you had a good time and, all went well.
I like the surprise part (leaving the scetch on the dining table where she could see it) that went along with the present.
I'm just greatful that sharing my experience with gifts helped and satisfied plus content that I contributed positively through it.
That's why the comments section in the blogs are in place and, the purpose of it.
I felt so stupid really to give it to her. I mean it is something I threw away but she liked it. We still went to the flea market after the framers but there was nothing else that she wanted. She only spoke about her sketch. I wish... nah, let it be.
that is just the type of present I would like as well. Something inexpensive but personal.
I am sure she will appreciate it much more than you ever did
Well, it's indeed "her sketch" now and, it fulfills all criteria or ticks all boxes so, mission accomplished!
Yes, I was wondering whether you also found something that she liked at the flea market you went together...it seems not.
You wish......???..... ....very intrigued to know now
She was like Mother Hen on it. I boxed it up and yesterday I shipped it via courier for delivery on Friday. She asked my about ten times last night if it won't get damaged or stolen while in transit. She wanted to take it with her on the plane but It would have been to bulky for her to handle with her suitcases. you know how you ladies traval for just a weekend. Now imagine the luggage for a month!
I could not interest her in anything on sale at the flea market or anywhere else. In the end we ate Chinese at a take-way stall and went home with a detour, showing her a few other landmarks in Cape Town.
For a week in Spain, I never take more than a carry-on case.
For a long-stay, long-haul flight, I take one check-in case

Hi,
If the son of "your Valentine" takes after his mum in regards to all qualities mentioned and is also single and available then, I'm very interested. No problem about the distance, not a big deal to be taken care of
That was exactly how I summed you up; a no nonsense woman and I included that part of the comment purposely to solicit this reply. I read you like a book.
Just teasing you there
I regret having to inform you that apparently, from what little we discussed him, he is happily married. Of course my idea of 'happily married' is that she's happy and he is married.
when you come from Ireland to Spain, the mere change in climate is enough to make anybody shed some clothes. I believe our climate is somewhat similar to Spain.
If it is that important to you I will monitor the situation and notify you in case of a change in status,
I know you are going through a drought, but I mean regular-dry
No, Catfoot, that won't be necessary but, thank you for the offer . It's a fact that there are thousands at least of already single and available men around in this world and, I'm sure one of those is for me as I'm for him.
From my experience, the luggage for a day or two is the same as that for 3 days and the luggage for a week is the same as that of a month. What mostly makes the luggage become huge is.... souveniers!
But then I am no lady, so I am different.
I so wanna jump into the pool with my Arty now......
I have never been to Spain so I won't really know but parts of South Africa is hot as hell. Large parts are arid semi-desert wastelands.
I need to go fetch my 'vetkoek'. There is an old lady making them and I support her from time to time. I cannot find an English word for it. One dictionary said it is a doughnut but it is not. It is a piece of unsweetened bread dough deep fried in oil. I made curry mince for filling and I'm getting hungry.
Are you familiar with something like that?
Be back in a few minutes.
What a lovely photo! It's said, "a photo is like one thousands words" awwww, look at how that man looks at you , lovely!
You are the best, girl!!
Still the snooker table legs. I f I remember correctly you have thin ankles. that is not snooker table legs.
I have no doubt about that. i was just looking for an excuse to call her from time to time.
that is another thing I don't bother with. Souvenirs just collect dust on shelves.
Yes, a large Indian community there. mostly descendants of Indian dockworkers imported by the English. And also a large Malay community in Cape Town They were imported by the Dutch as wives for the farmers on the western side of the country.
Have you seen a full size Snooker table?
When I was a child I endeavored into all kinds of enterprises, I collected everything from matchboxes to stamps. As I grew up I decided that it was a waste of time and space. All I collect now is music.I'd buy a CD, rip it, and lock it away. I have a collection of more than 10,000 songs spanning from the forties up to recent times. I collect nothing else. I have very few photographs of myself.
My mother collected things like that and we gave them all away when she died. Not my father nor my sister wanted any of it. The family were given first option and they took most. The neighbors took the rest.
I just LOVE what you gave to her.
As she "asked" for something like that, I would say you can be sure, you will never be forgotten.
