On a scale of 1-10, how good is your Nihongo? grin
@Mimi, thanks for being my first. Most probably in the range of 4 to 6. If the Japanese I'm talking to is well exposed to foreigners, he's aware to use only the easier Japanese words and sentences. In that case, I'm in 6.grin Otherwise, I'd be in level 4 or even 3. Nothing to worry, though. If ever I get lost in the maze of small streets, I'd still be able to go home. You can come here and I'd guide you around much of the time and most probably we'd both be lost in more than a few times!laugh My formal Japanese study was one 2 months. The rest are a bit of self study, a bit from TV shows and from the children with whom my son used to play with during his childhood yrs. And not to forget during the PTA meetings in school. If I'd win I lotto, I promise myself to enroll in the best Japanese school so I'd be able to digest everything that I find interesting here. Thanks again! You being Chinese won't find it hard because you know the Chinese characters. If ever you'd come I won't be the one to guide you. Funny, but , it could be you.laugh bouquet
No Tatami, I don’t read the Chinese characters, unfortunately crying I was sent to a Malay school...blues

My Chinese girlfriends who went to Chinese school can read a bit of Japanese, really envy them sigh

Thanks for the offer, Tatami and if you’re ever in Malaysia, let me be your guide too wink applause

That´s a beautiful melody ....Thanks for sharing bouquet
@Mimi, my father was pure Chinese. When he passed away, some of his relatives and friends living in the Phils came. They asked us if we can speak Chinese. When we said we were sent to local schools, they said they could have sponsored our education if sent to Chinese school. Some of them I've never seen in my life except for that moment. But destiny speaks of a different path. There were plans of working and living in Hong Kong before my father passed away. But it wasn't destined. No hard feelings, though. Thanks for taking time.bouquet
@Crunia,to think that this song was yrs ago and I happen to hear it recently speaks badly of me. Just maybe I'm a cave woman!laugh Thanks for liking the song.bouquet hug
We are many in caves here Tatami ....and some are still with Plato lol!

Oh! You have a Chinese surname then! grin

When I was at the Greenbelt Mall in Makati, I heard a lot of Fujianese being spoken! I knew they were local Chinese-Filipinos coz of the accented English.

I went to my friend’s house in Bulaon, Pampanga and her immediate neighbour was a Chinese!

Another trip to Puerto Galera, at my Filipina girlfriend’s resort ( she’s from Iloilo ) ‘The Buri’, one of her cooks was of a Chinese descent. No wonder her kiampong and lomi were to die for!! love

Love love love the buko pandan too! smitten

Thank you very much for your compliments. smile blushing hug

I studied the Japanese language, literature, culture, etc. at university. I have been to Japan. smile

I don't know much about Japanese popular music, but I like watching Japanese dramas and films, especially romantic ones and comedies. smile While watching one drama, I came across a certain Japanese actor for the first time and after searching for him on Google, I found out that his name was Akira and that he was a member of the band EXILE. That's how I found out about them. smile

Have you been living in Japan for a long time?
@mimi, my father came to the Phils even before WWII on a ship. Accdg to him, since no one among them spoke the local lingo and the locals didn't know how to speak Chinese as per disembarkation rule, a name must be written. Hence all of those in the ship were surnamed Tan although when his relations and friends came by, they referred to him in another name. One reason why some Chinese in the Phils have 2 Chinese names aside from the fact that some when naturalized as Filipinos adopt Christian names. The Phils is such a beautiful country but a bit scary if you're on your own. Good thing you have a trusted friend with you. And it won't be an exaggeration if I'd say that majority of Filipinos are of Chinese descent. I adore the Chinese for their cultural and food heritage, the way they value the family esp their parents. I only dislike them if they put more emphasis on money and power with a complete disregard to humanity. It is my belief that we are all citizens of the world and there's only but one world we live. And we don't want to destroy it. Thanks for taking time. And you're definitely making me envious of your profile pictures. Congratulations for finding the One!bouquet heart wings teddybear yay
@Krinka, I came here in April 11, 1990. From time to time, I visited my home country , the Phils. I even gave birth to my son over there as the place we used to live had no one who could speak English. My formal Japanese language education was only 2 months, only for Hiragana and Katakana. The handful of kanjis I've learned are from day to day living. Most Pinays here who met their husbands while working in the omise are far better than I. Had I been younger when I came here, I'd do the same perhaps.grin As for Atsushi San, my son used to ask me to buy CDs of Exile. I did buy them without even taking a look. had I been, I could have appreciated him and his group earlier. hug bouquet teddybear Thanks for sharing!!
@tatami

The better you speak Japanese, the more chances you have to meet a good Japanese man. So, it might be worth the effort. wink smile

It's never too late to enjoy the new music. wave
