Being Healthy by WATER in Ayurveda

Water is the first requirement of our body.
There are 4 rules of drinking water in Ayurveda.

1. Always drink warm water (37 C warm). Warm = body temperature.
Never drink cold water

2. Take water after 90 to 120 minutes after taken food. Don't drink water instantly after food, wait for 90 to 120 minutes. If you want drink water before food then 40 to 60 minutes before eating food.

3. Always drink water slowly-slowly as like you drink hot tea or coffee.

4. Early morning when you wake-up instantly drink water about 1 to 2 liter (according to body capacity), after then go for toilet.

If you drink 2 litres of water in the morning, you'd better have a catheter fitted pal.
What about during the day..between meals..can you drink as much as you like?

What about other beverages? Tea..fruit juice..?

Why can't you drink while eating a meal???? Hmmm.

Very interesting information.

What do you suggest for cleansing toxins from kidneys ? Any special herbal tea?
Ayurvedic is something I have respect for. Not everything though. I have managed to get off strong painkilllers by taking Ayurvedic Turmeric/Black pepper which is an anti inflammatory.

Unfortunately re ~ Water. In Ireland our water is heavily fluoridated since 1963 when the Dental Boards were hoodwinked into believing that it is good for teeth. The only water unflouridated now is plastic Bottled water. Due to the fact that plastic eventually seeps into the Bottle and the dreadful effects on the Oceans, I now drink the tap water.

I have always been told to drink Warm water with lemon or cucumber first thing in the morning, 2 glasses, same going to bed. To drink an hour after meals and of course during the day.
I do believe people in India would have different needs from say, people in a moderate to cold climate like Ireland. However, yes, I always drink water at room temp. and drink alot.
Drinking with food interferes with digestion.

Good blogwine
@Mr Amor - that’s all very well to state those 4 necessities about the best way of drinking water and I am sure that Ayurveda has its merits as a system of medicine.
However, if you make such statements, it would be good if you qualify them with reasons and explain the why. For example, why is it better to eat, but wait an hour or so before drinking water?

I think people these days would agree with your point number 4, it’s the other three that need some explanation.

handshake
By the way, I am not doubting it, just want to know the reasoning. wave
I drink litres and litres of iced cold water as water at room temperature is disgusting I'm still alive.
@Kal - well thanks for posting that kiss

(Mr Amor is obviously off ayurvading somewhere grin )

Kal, yes..reading your information, it all makes perfect sense to me....thank you hug
I agree that water is a big requirement for the body. That is why I always go to the beach to soak in it, but I also believe that too much water is not the best for you. That is why you should drink beer when you are there.

Thank you for nice suggestion.

first thing i will say any medical method, treatment method, treatment rules are different for person to person & country to country because it depended on climate & our body response.
for example : drinking tea is a medicine for cold climate & is a poisonous for hot climate.

but few rules are equal for all.
4 rules for drinking water is useful for all person.

1. drinking Lukewarm water because if you drink cold water, stomach will do unnecessary effort to make the water warm. it make the stomach weaker.

2. drinking water after 90 to 120 minutes after meal or 40 to 60 minutes before meal. it is because if water is mixed in food in the stomach, it will diluted the digestive enzymes, thus unnecessary extra digestive enzymes will be required to digest the food. it will make the stomach weaker.

3. slowly slowly drinking water because: saliva is a medicine for stomach, it helps to digest anything, it is necessary to give more saliva to your stomach. drink water slowly slowly so that more saliva enter in your stomach with water.

4. early morning drinking water is useful for cleaning intestine, easy toilet.

search everything related it on google or youtube. i also find it from google & youtube.
i am following these 4 rules since 8 months.
my constipation is gone, piles is gone, migraine is gone, gastric is gone, acidity is gone, indigestion is gone, etc.
Mr. Amor, So glad we agree if only for different reasons. . . . handshake . . . . cheers
Amor...thanks for your reply but....do you mean not to drink anything DURING meals ?
But can drink as much as you want in between?

I'm supposed to drink at least 3 litres a day...and I'm always dehydrated anyway...especially in hot weather.
daniela777
don't drink water between meal.
if you are Thirsty then first drink water as much as you need, then after 40 to 60 minutes you eat food.

remember one thing water will diluted your digestive enzymes, then it will required unnecessary extra enzymes so don't mix water with food in your stomach.

for more information you can search from google.
i can hear in my mind how you said slowly-slowlylaugh
Everything else is ok but I have question about the time limit of drinking water during eating....

Our country is very hot and humid during summer days.. And we often eat steaming hot foods.. So it is not only impossible but also not very practical or healthy to maintain such a big gap between eating and drinking water.. (Take water after 90 to 120 minutes after taken food. Don't drink water instantly after food, wait for 90 to 120 minutes. If you want drink water before food then 40 to 60 minutes before eating food.)

No matter how healthy ayurveda says it is...
I really believe , we should listen to our own bodies. They tell us when we are thristy, and by that time we are already a little dehydrated.
As a young child, I got in to a lot of trouble because I ate my Dinner and would not, could not drink anything until it was finished. About 10 minutes after.

It is anti-social at Weddings and having meals out in Restaurants, however a glass of wine before a meal does in fact calm the digestive system and helps with body digest the food better.

I really think it is WHAT y ou are eating that counts, how slowly you are chewing the food, how much of that food you are eating, and if you are stressed when eating.

Life for many now is very fast paced, especially younger people, and they drink coffee and Tea all the time to keep them going and can only get in a bottle of water now and again.

Drinking during a meal is disastrous for digestion and health. So the little child that got smacked for not drinking up my Milk or water, was right .
