Sleep Disorder

This is often why I blog - my sleep pattern has gone whacko. On a 40 hr work week schedule I have to try to force sleep when I can, after retirement I will let my body enoy as little sleep as it needs.

The funny thing is I'm hearing this disturbing sleep disorder from so many people, my children, the adult grand divas, friends are starting to say it happening to them, even some co-workers, different posters on a blog I discussed elsewhere came forward with this experience. My guess is all the wonderful electronics we are tethered too are affecting parts of our brain, sleep pattern being one of them.

I've tried teas, tons of natural products but not script pills because I can't get my hands on any but that is a good think because from my understanding you wake up groggy and I hate groggy. All the natural one I pop awake like a jack in the box. They just won't put me to sleep though

My folks aren't having this sleep problem, in fact Mom get Dad up around 9am, Mom dresses him, fixes breakfast, Dad reads his newspaper (and I tease him that everyone reads it online) and he is ready for his first of six daily naps. Sleep no longer eludes him. Ironically he hated sleep when he was younger. Mom on the other hand says she too is waking up hours before Dad and she gets to cherish that time for herself so sh is okay with it.

I'm facing the first part of my life of not having to adhere to a schedule and I'm just a little bewildered at wondering, imagining all the things that can unfold. At the same time I have to fear of "change", habits to break easy. This is my problem and I embrace it, now if I can quit trying to over think it, I could do myself a favor. Sounds like I'm trying to turn into my own therapist.

This blog brought to you by sleep deprivation, I hope I don't regret it tomorrow.

Down and out, I got an hour and a half before the stinky alarm goes off.

Great responses from both of you, thank you.

I'm in a bit of a fog today at work.

Will write more tonight when I get home.
Interrupted sleep and not being able to get back to sleep has plagued me for years. It really took a toll on me when I was working and had to adhere to a strict schedule. I always attributed that to stress because during the times I can't go back to sleep my mind is racing about something. Now that I am retired it doesn't matter nearly as much because if I can't get back to sleep I just get up and do whatever I please until I get sleepy again. sleep
JustforKicks ~ me too, being retired, sometimes I get up, stay up for a while, watch the night go buy out the window... then back to bed. When you don't have to get up in the morning early ,you can always go for a nap in the afternoon, though I have been told by my G.P.not to do that. To keep a regime, go to bed at same time up at same time. OK for him, he hasn't got black under his eyes from lack of good deep, sound sleep.thumbs up
For as long as I can remember I have not been a good sleeper and yet wake up early. Now that I am retired I still wake up early ( I hate that laugh ) but now it seems I need a nap in the afternoon, might be a age thing. sleep
I've always been a 'light' sleeper, so almost anything will wake me up. Of course, many times I can't get back to sleep - and yes, I hate that.

The big one for me is turning my electronics off an hour before bed. I climb into bed, and read for awhile and sleep does not elude me. Unless it's a thrilling good book, and then I stay awake to finish it.

Some good suggestions here, and I may just have to try a few.

thumbs up
The most relaxed I've ever been was after a massage.Forget getting a housekeeper.rolling on the floor laughing
I have trouble sleeping too, especially when I´m smashed on drugs
Jimnastics ~ I mentioned Melatonin on my lengthy reply, it is very helpful, so are antihistamines. The ones that make you sleepy.sleep
Melatonin m'be.
Hi Jim,

I too mentioned Melatonin in the blog, sigh it doesn't help me fall asleep though, it does however help keep me asleep once I fall asleep. Falling asleep the first time isn't all that hard, it's the wake up to have to run and powder my nose that I have a hard time falling back asleep.

I've only slept a few hours and my body thinks it is time to get up.

ugh
When I have to pee at 3am I'm a goner.
Its only an issue if you dont get out of bed.
Unfayzed ~ Ironically they don't sell Melatonin here in Ireland, of all the E.U. countries, The Irish Medical Board, has the strictest regulations regarding certain drugs. So if I go to the North of Ireland [which is still under British governance] I can get Melatonin, another thing that would definitely help you but take a few weeks to build up is Tryptophan, it is also great for Serotonin uptake, and you would feel better on it all round.

It was recommended to me for my sleep probs. by a Very good Doctor from California. Unfortunately, it is not allowed to be sold over the counter here either. frustrated

Banana containing Magnesium to calm is lovely on Brown bread with a drink of Milk, Calcium , all things to calm the mind.....

Hardly slept a wink last night and I look about 100. yawn
I believe Tryptophan is what is in Turkey that causes one to be sleepy after eating a turkey dinner. I didn't even know I could by it as a suppliment. Thank you.
