computer glitch

I must admit I am behind times, but then I am old, as well as old fashioned. Shucks - I even look for the crank on the telephone ! A kid in elementary school probably understands a PC more than I. So considering all that, I request some input from some of you who are into those electronic wizards. I was given a computer for Father's Day a while back, and I must admit I like it , but do well to turn it on.
A few months back I turned it on , then a message came on the monitor which stated , "someone is using this computer". How could that be , I have never given anyone my password. I changed my password. I did at that time receive notice that my hard drive was almost full and the"system restore" would not function. I have a relative who uses his PC in his business and I ask him about the problem. he checked and found there were 2 items on the hard drive which took up all the space. He is pretty savvy, he managed to clean them out. The PC worked better , but then I received a message which stated, "A party asks permission to use this computer." I inquire, - who is that party? Answer came back, "Party unknown".
You who are intelligent about computers, please give me your idea of why this is happening. and what I can do to keep it from happening again. studecar professor (not in computers)

But you must admit, it's better with computers today. daisy
I'm not sure got any good recommendations?
Someone is using this computer is a friendly reminder that you have unsaved files and they could be lost if not saved before shutdown.
A party asks permission to use this computer. 2 things usually cause this problem with windows 10. One is remote access and the other is Administrator account not logged in, is corrupt or file damage, etc. This normally is caused when attampting to make changes to programs or the OS Operation system.
If your isp internet service provider is Spectrum you can download free antivirus software from their site.
My answer to Windows was to buy refurbished laptop with Win 7 Pro 64 Bit installed and turn off windows security, update, firewall and anything else thief Bill Gates wants you to run like Windows Explorer try via Start: type "Turn Windows Features On/Off" don't give your new computer a password and turn permissions for all users...Take charge of your computer, ensure bill gates doesn't force you into buying a newer version of windows, turn all updates OFF. He is a thief.
Fully install your favorite Office Suite like in, I paid for Microsoft Office 2000 Premium and it is fully patched with Sp1, Sp2, Sp3 and Sp 4 and is set to run in the 2000 mode the program was made to run in...
You can't run Outlook on Win 7 computer so go back to school and buy Student version of that, backup what it does with Outback Plus 9 backup program.
Install FireFox (I prefer Nightly) and download and install Yandex Browser to...

Having done that completely lawful process, get yourself a good backup program like "Macrium Refect" and then get that to make Grandfather backup image of your whole system and have that saved onto an external Hard Drive.

Then if you want bit more security Clone your computer onto another Hard Disk and save it somewhere safe for a rainy day.

Now install PAID Spybot, PAID Malwarebytes, PAID SuperAntiSpyware antivirus programs.

And OP then loan your wife to your mate instead and keep other people off your computer
Studecar ~ many highly intelligent people are not adept at Computers, others with mediocre brains are whizz kids, it is that kind of thing, some people are not good technically does not mean to say they are in any way stupid or backward. I prefer the old phones, the landlines with no radiation.

I hope you get your computer situated sorted anyway. I miss the hand written letter, probably should have been born in Jane Austen days. Hope you get it sorted. wink
You can buy a refurbished 13" Chromebook for a about $100 and forget about virus and malware issues. It is lightweight and starts up fast. If all you are doing is email, facebook, CS, or surfing the web it is all you need.
