School shootings

What should we do to prevent this from happening? Is there a good solution?

Our political figures should enforce the laws which are already in the books.

Also by going after the people who are selling guns illegally.
It's hard to shoot if you can't get your hands on a gun so easily.
Countries where people don't have guns (and don't want or need to) simply don't have school shootings like you have in the States.
Ms bluesky, yes, there is a good solution.....armed guard, metal detectors and one entrance/exit and obviously removing the No Guns Allowed signs....and replace it with Armed Guard on Duty......end of problem.......
Hello Molly, wave I agree with you there, Over here once strict gun laws were enacted, gun crimes went down, and crimes with knives went up,doh
Bad and all as knives are, they cannot cause the mass carnage that guns can.
Back again, Molly ,you re right there, the mass carnage guns cause is immense, doh
Afew weeks back there was a day for turning in ,to authorities unwanted firearms. The firearms turned in was unreal, wow
Since the mid 90s, when our stricter gun laws came out, and less firearms available ,our societies outlook on guns has changed.
Miw, I agree. London has to deal with its rising crime problem, the way New York seems to have done.

But I would think the rate for the UK as a whole is significantly lower than the USA as a whole.
If the murder rates of just a few large U.S. cities are not considered, the U.S. murder rate is comparable to that of New Zealand.

Packing large numbers of people into small areas (U.S. or U.K.) may well increase the incidence of anti-social behavior.

If some persons in such environments identify themselves with a certain demographic, and perceive persons of other demographics as 'enemies' - that must be considered as a contributing factor.

...when and where I grew up, the shotgun(s) where standing behind the doore in the hallway, and the shells where in the draw next to them... no scoolshootings even if my dad was a teacher....

point is, the youngsters needs to learn respeckt for guns and respeckt for people and lives in general, or
there wount be any changes...

At least one police officer should be in every single school. It may not prevent all problems, but may make problematic people think twice.
Up in my home state of Michigan the public school had a police officer in the grade school that my sons attended and there were no problems.

That officer had his own office in one of the empty rooms and the students became use to seeing him everyday and would run up to him and give him hugs .Plus they called him Officer Steve.
Bear..that is a good idea to be prepared in school with a police officer on duty.
I understand your point, stud...
But it'd run afoul of 'due process' (Amendment V) as well as 'cruel & unusual punishment' (Amendment VIII) of the Constitution.

The courts cannot strike those down, as they're part of the Constitution.
It'd require amending the Constitution.
Neither 2/3 of Congress & Senate, nor 3/4 of state legislatures are going to abridge the Bill Of Rights.
Long story short - it ain't gonna happen.

:
Yes we can do it.. Easy as Pie...
First, Close all Campuses.. No More Coming and going as you Please.. For Student's of Course...
In Less then a week's time... This Could be Implemented!!
For the Perfect Officer's... I'd Pick, Retired Marine Vet's!!!
Of Course a Schedule for Arrival's would need to be worked out, to Eliminate Bunching up at the door's, trying to get in... Business'es have been doing this for Year's...
Also the Bus Driver's should be Packing as well, to Protect the Kid's on the Bus...

1)Limit Entrances, two at the Most, With A Physically Fit, Armed Security, Watching...
2)Metal Detector's at Said entrances... Everyone Use's.. No Employee Entrance's.... with a Trained Operator, viewing content's brought into the school... This would catch More then Just Gun's...
3)Guard's to Roam the Ground's and Hallways, (1-?? As Needed, for the Size of the School) Looking for unusual Packages and Trouble Brewing...Etc...
4)Make it Allowed That Teachers can Pack as well, If they Choose, Keeping up on, Certification's to Carry, like the Police have to do...every year...
5)For the Classroom's... A Student invented a Great Devise, that make's it Impossible to Open the Door...
Just a Brilliant Design... Lock's the Door to the Frame... and Steel Door's won't Flex... Sooo it can only be opened from the Inside...

In Review..
1 Auto/Barrier per Classroom Door
1 to 2 Metal Detector's W/ Operator's able to Help Take down a Suspect if Needed...
1 to 2 Officer's, Dedicated to only the Entrance's
1 to ??, Roaming Officer's... as Needed..

We do it for the Courthouse's, Concert's, Sporting Event's..... ETC!!!
Why Not Our School's... Money you Say...
Where will it come from... Hold back Money, we have been giving AWAY to other Country's.... Dah!!
Let's Protect our Children FIRST!!!!
Very good input Tn, thank you for your soutions.they sure make great sense.i especially like the classroom door that can only open on the inside.applause
I read about a school shooting in Indiana.
what Loophole,Jim,and what Military-style Weapons,Jim,do some research,Jim?doh doh
Automatic & semi-automatic guns, Conrad.

The loophole is, that only six states (California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon and Rhode Island) require universal background checks on all firearm sales at gun shows, including sales by unlicensed dealers.
Three more states (Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania) require background checks on all handgun sales made at gun shows.
@ jimnastics..... are these loopholes to blame for the school shootings ?
With all these school shootings there must be a lot of unstable households.
Train and arm teachers, it is the best way to protect students and teachers.
The job of teachers is to teach. Let them do, what they do best.
Instead, assign a police officer to guard the entrance.
yep Jim,it worked sooooo well in that Florida Highschool!doh
proper parenting should also be looked at..guns dont kill people .. people kill people ..

we tend to blame others for our mistakes all the times.. if we dont have bad kids we dont have crimes..

we must teach our kids values and attitudes , wrong and right, am not saying it will always work but at least if a child grows up to a good teaching then i think we will have less troubled kids in the world who will become men eventually.. first we begin to teach them how to love and not hate ..

look at it this way.. if they dont use guns to kill they will find something else..knives , sticks , stones, there are so many different objects other than Guns that can be used to take a life ..and the home is where it all begins ..
Bluesky ~ here we have stabbings but not that many. I do think stricter regulations, gun control and very harsh sentences, no suspended sentences, and parents have to be made accountable.
