Memorial Day is set aside to remember those lost in our wars.
We should also remember those - military & civilian of all nations - who to a greater or lesser extent have been and are being lost to PTSD.

What we now observe as Memorial Day in the U.S. had its origins after the U.S. Civil War (1861- Spring '65). That's why it's observed in May, whereas many countries observe Remembrance Day on Nov. 11, the day the Armistice ended WWI.
As sky notes, it's since expanded to include remembering all our dead loved ones.
(See the Memorial Day blog - by glow, I believe.)
