Time is running out.
Many 'South Africans' s now living abroad still have property and farms in SA which they rented out for a small amount or basically just asked family or friends to watch over it when they decided that this country was no longer fit for them. The Gauteng government wants to “immediately” expropriate without compensation privately owned land lying idle.
Premier David Makhura said the province was completing an audit of all unused privately owned land to test the Constitution instead of waiting on the parliamentary process currently reviewing the property rights clause of the Constitution.
“There are tracts of land, others just being used for speculation, other land parcels have been abandoned by landlords living overseas waiting for one day to sell the land to developers at huge profits.
I think this is fair.
I also think that this situation is an ideal time for an enterprising entrepreneur to start a business where it will find appropriate tenants or occupants to occupy some of these properties at a handsome fee, (houses, Blocks of flats, hotels, prime farms etc.) while the owner makes a plan to sell or whatever he/she thinks fit so as not to lose totally on the deal..
Many pro's and cons to take into consideration here.
Is this a bad idea or will one pick up too much flak from the government?
Personally I'm not interested in this but know of people that are.

I would expropriate these houses, make them habitable and then either rent or sell at an affordable price.
I know exactly what you mean and its a great idea killing 2 birds with one stone. - making the houses habitable and helping the poor.
Its a bit different here and these property owners will lose huge amounts with certain gov officials here (as usual) scoring big time.
It is the same with houses here. Speculators buy the houses and do not rent them out or sell them. Thus creating a housing shortage and raised prices. They price the ordinary person out of the market.
I would have a 5-year use or lose policy
(The car while it sits in the garage,or your camper, boat, bonds, whatever is your asset or investment for retirement).
Sounds like a divorce alright.

Or entitlement; as fancy word for
you work the future and I will benefit
by simply demanding it right now.
It is not socialism though.
Dada.
Here in Spain we have so many abandoned houses, the cause is the high death taxes, families that dont live in an town but have inherited the property just dont bother.
With respect, this is Africa.
Some amazing productive farms have been 'given' to the upcoming farmer here with everything breaking down after a year or two. These people need major education in the actual running and maintaining of (farm) business. Talk is cheap but most officials were just out to enrich themselves. The man in the street has opportunity yes, but without guidance and support its going south.
Im having connection probs here...
An abandoned places like Map said are not the same.
Of course working farms shouldn't be expropriated
But I hate waste in anything, especially land or houses when they are needed by others
Ex you say,,, an axe would more likely spring to mind for a huge headache... er Henri Van Breda springs to mind
That young man axed his whole family to death and was sentenced last week to a few life sentences...
Thats the wrong pic....
Next step will be without compensation. This is apparently just to test the Constitution instead of waiting on the parliamentary process.
The rapid land release programme is expected to also help change the apartheid human settlement patterns.
I think the will to farm ,be productive and sucessfull is also lacking. jmo
JUNE IS NATIONAL MIGRAINE & HEADACHE AWARENESS MONTH

Bye everyone
Politicians out to enrich themselves.,,never a good thing.
