"REMEMBERING"

They Told Them... It Was Going To Be Pretty Rough............................Being As It Was...........They Had No Choice.................................It Was Just.Another Search And Destroy Mission.....They Had No Choice..............
They Just Went...........Colonel Allen Had Never Moved......... With His Troops Upon The Ground Before
The Jungle Was So Thick .... One Could Only See..... A Mere 10 Feet At Best............. In Front Of Him

Alfa Company Was Leading The Way...70 Men.......And Right Behind Alfa Company? There Was ...Delta Company...72 Men...There Were Around 142 Of Them Altogether..........They Thought..."Theres No Way Anybody Was Going To Mess With Us"

Suddenly...There Were These Clicking Sounds..(V C Tapping On The Trees Comunicating With Each Other)
What Was Not Known At The Time Was... To Start?...There Was A Battalion Of V C Waiting For Them
And Then?........All F N Hell Broke Loose

Alpha Company...In The Lead...Starting Dropping Like Flies..(Not Knowing Where The Fire Was Coming From
In The End?...Alpha Company...All 72 Men Were Either Dead Or Wounded

And...Right Behind Them?
The Commander Of Delta Company Was Found Staring At A Picture Of His Three Kids
And Was Asked In The Heat Of Fire..."What Ta Hell Are You Doing Looking At A Picture At A Time Like This?"
Within Seconds..Half Of The Commanders Head Was Blown Off
The Picture Was Of His 3 Young Daughters

Now...The V C Brought In A Second Battalion...For They New That The Americans Could Not Summon Artillery.... Because Both Sides Were To Close Together
If You Were In The Shade?...You Were Safe....If In The Light?....You Eventually Were A Dead Or Wounded Soldier
The Massacre Continued For Hours...Until...And All Of A Sudden.........Everything Went Silent

For Reasons Found Out Much Later...The V C Were Suddenly Ordered .....To Stick To Their Original Orders...And Were Told To Move Out

If It Wasnt For The V Cs Order To Stick To Their Original Orders...And To Depart The On Going Massacre?
Not An American Would Have Survived

After When It Was Over...64 Young Boys....... Were Dead
And The Rest?.....Just About Every Last One That Was Left Alive?...Was Wounded
This Massacre Happened Because Of Purely Coincidental Circumstances Of A Chance Meeting

Let Us Not Forget The Sacrifice Of The 57,00 To 58,000 Young Men...And Some Women Medical Nurses... That Were Sent Or Went To Vietnam..And....In Most Cases?...Not Because They Wanted To Go
But Because...They Had To Go

Unforunately no I don't know for sure what year the photo had been taken. It's obvious it was taken while he had been serving in Vietnam.

Nam,

Very good blog!thumbs up

Looking closer at the weapon being held; it looks like a Carbine. I carried to different rifles while in the Marine Corps. First was an M1 and then later a Carbine!

I was in the service between Korea and Vietnam.
Good Morning Gentlejim, are you referring to the one that my brother is holding?
I'll go with this information on what kinds of rife that the US troops use and the M16 looks similar to the one that my brother is holding.

The U.S.-made M-16 rifle was redesigned in 1966 to perform better in the wet, dirty conditions that prevailed in ground combat during the Vietnam War, and it became the weapon most commonly associated with U.S. troops in the conflict.
