On my co worker

2 days ago I happened to inquire about a co worker whom I've never seen for several days. I was told, she fell unconscious while at work and was rushed to hospital. I was saddened since I used to work with her. The girl whom I asked took pity of her since the lady is in her mid 50's and was living alone far from her children. At first look , one may consider it's all about work. Our job is quite physical and as it's summer, we shed a lot of sweat. Not that the company has no cooling system. In fact we have several spot coolers and in the place where she fell unconscious is the most convenient and comfortable place in all of the factory. As I've said I used to work with her and I've noticed for most of the times(might be bad to say more than half of the times)she was sleepy. One time she was not just sleepy but almost fell backwards twice in a row. And then she confided she hadn't slept yet since she joined a fishing group early in the day. Not so sure what other reasons she had for the rest of the times she was so sleepy. Alas for the factory, though. As it may look the factory has some kind of fault for not minding their workers. No one has the right to meddle on one's private time but if it interferes with one's work to the detriment of the factory's name and the others in general, someone must limit her OT time or her working days.

Not fair to the company she’s working for and not fair to her fellow colleagues too. scold
@Mimi, thanks for being here. Yes, definitely!! She is form Latin America and I've noticed that people from there are quite demanding. I pity her the same but what else can I do other than pray that she get better and go back to work.bouquet
Hi Tatami. It is always sad to hear that someone has to work so hard and so much to survive. But I believe she must be put her main job first. Hope everything works out for her.

Good to see you hug
I don't understand why she joined the fishing group if she has to work the same day. Unless she sends all her wages to her family, and has no food. Maybe you can talk to her about it and find out what the problem is.
@Lindsy, last night she came to work and I happened to work with her again. She told me that her son is under police investigation for being caught with marijuana. The case is compounded because he was positive for other kind of drugs. She could be worrying too much hence, the fainting spell. And must be to override her worries so she joined the fishing session. She's a kind of person who lets others know every detail of her prob. Maybe she feels better that way. Each to his own so they say. As for me, the more I worry, the more I try to focus on my job. thanks for coming by.bouquet
@Wen, most single mothers do work harder than the rest. Though some have the grandest time until the children reach 16 yrs old. She's a single parent of 3. I only have one child who's 27 now. I could have stopped working had I not been helping a family member back home. So, like her, I'm working a bit harder. Sometimes I thank God I was born poor. Just to think I'm 61 and looks someone on her 50's but is able to work among the 20's and 30's and 40's without using any supporter like the ones those 30's and 40's are using. I just feel great about this. Thanks for your understanding.bouquet
Welcome tatami. The only thing is that she can lost her job and then it becomes worse. I hope she will be able to handle all the pressures of working so hard and at the same time handling all her personal problems without losing her job,
@Pat, that too, I just can't understand. This fainting spells isn't foreign to me. In almost all of the factories I've worked under night shift, I've met several who had at least one fainting spell. Instead of sleeping during the day, they spend their time in recreation in various forms and later giving out reasons for doing so. Surely if someone would asked me, I'd say the truth. But nobody asked and I just won't tell if nobody asked. And as @Mimi said, it's not fair for everyone and for the company. But it seems nothing is fair anymore.dunno
I use to work 80 hours a week in factories..I didn't witness any fainting spells.
@Mercedes, thanks for coming over. I have never seen anything like it in day shift. I just consider them as still adjusting to the night shift and in work in general. A few of them haven't had any work experience in their home countries and maybe still adjusting to how things are done here in Japan aside from language and culture. Some of their activities are legitimate like sending remittances or visiting the hospital/clinic for health reasons. Some are easily adjusted and some takes longer. And worse some consider the place of employment as welfare agencies. sigh
