Benefits of Friends
Don't you love it when you see old friends and even though time has passed since you last saw them, it's like no time has passed at all?Yesterday, my mortgage broker who became a very good friend in the 1990's, finally came out to see me and my 'new' house. Although we'd spoken at length last year, we've hardly spoken since, and not due to anything other than life getting in the way.
He was RV'ing down south for a good portion of the winter, and I was immersed in coding and revamping one of my websites, applying for the various market venues, and exploring my new community with my camera.
It was amazing to see him again, and his hugs are absolutely terrific. I haven't had such a good hug in a long time. Not that I haven't been hugged, but not like that! We spent the afternoon chatting and catching up on each other's lives, laughing, and generally enjoying ourselves. (And no, he's not a FWB, just simply a male friend).
He is also an avid cyclist, and we've made plans to ride the Iron Horse trail together, which I can hardly wait to do again. But there's also other trails we talked of riding together, both of us saying we'd love to ride either the Iron Horse Trail for it's entire length of 243 miles, or any other rail trail that offers the same thing.
There is a group upcountry here that offers rail trail tours of five days, which I have to look into further. Neither one of us wants to 'camp' and take all the paraphernalia required to do so, and would rather either B&B it along the way, or have someone spotting us in an RV, so we have a place to overnight before we take the next leg of our journey.
As things have settled down a bit, I'm thinking that maybe next week he and I would go to a new rail trail I've never been to before, as I've got a craving to go somewhere different.
It was so wonderful to reconnect, and funny that I'd been thinking about him and how we hadn't seen or talked to each other for quite awhile, and poof! He pops up in a text message, wanting to see me.
It was such a great afternoon, I can hardly wait to go on a new bike ride with him. Mind you, he's been known to be rather unreliable at times, so if he doesn't come with me, I'll go anyway. Now I just have to figure out which day I want to go.
And for GentleJim - here's the pics you asked to see.

I found a friend on Facebook that I hadn't been in touch with in more than 40 years when I lived in Chicago.
Perhaps you can get more of those.....ahem.... great hugs at night in one of those B&Bs.
Actually, it may be to your benefit to cohabitate with him.
Whenever you can't sleep at night, you could just have him tell you all about his work.......
I met my high school girlfriend for lunch when we were in our late 50-s
We hadn't seen each other in 40 years.
It was so surreal. Almost like something out of "The Twilight Zone"...only it was good.
She remembered things that I had forgotten and vice versa.
You and your friend have a great time biking!
I use to bike a lot! Made a lot of friends that way!
