Selfie Stick...

The selfie stick is a telescopic cellphone (or camera) holder that has a triggering button on the handle. Most are actuated remotely by Bluetooth but some older models have electro-mechanical triggers.

The purpose of a selfie stick is to inflict pain on others... kidding!

Actually, the purpose of the selfie stick it to hold the camera (cellphone in camera mode) at a distance far greater than the reach of the person taking the photos/videos. Often, it's around three feet when fully retracted and gives the user enough distance to show a sizeable background with the operator focused in the foreground. This also is good for group shots of four.

Some selfie sticks offer a tripod base so you don't have to hold the camera allowing you time to setup your shot and not do everything spontaneously.

The drawback to selfie sticks is many places (especially tourist attractions) ban their use simply because they are... correction, the people using them in public are annoying to those around them.

I was watching a comedian the other day talking about selfies and you know what he had a point. He said it should be renamed the lonely. Not the selfie.. nobody to take the picture for you. Friend or family.

Selfies I guess are a great way for strangers to know what you look like. But, beyond that.. hmm.
Selfie is one of my least favourite words in the English language very mad

People are getting both self-obsessed and self-conscious at the same time.

The fad of constantly taking pics of oneself instead of just enjoying their surroundings , and then feeling bad because they do not look as perfect as they want, is not a good thing for either the individuals or society at large.
Facebook is full of pictures where people post picture of what they are eating and at what restaurant...talk about boring!
I couldn't get it why some people get annoyed so easily. roll eyes

Spend $5,000 on a vacation and have a bunch of tourists running around bumping people with selfie sticks could be reason enough to get annoyed... especially if they ignore the signs NO SELFIE STICKS
Don't really see what the whole problem with the selfie is....it's just taking a picture after all....whether it's someone else taking it for us or us taking it for ourselves......too much drama over something that's been happening for a century roll eyes
It somewhat cracks me up.
They travel to exotic places and instead of taking pictures of the gorgeous scenery,
they take pictures of themselves. laugh
They could stay home and do that.

Last year I dated a gal in Florida, who was a tremendous cook. Perhaps the best chef I ever dated.
The meals she made were absolutely delicious.
However, before we could eat any of it, she had to take several photos of it to post on
her Instagram account. laugh Once is OK, but every meal ? doh
