You Just Can't Make This Stuff Up....

This weekend is the "Electric Love" music festival in my community, blasting electronic music and heavy bass all weekend. Although the organizers say no drugs or alcohol, obviously it's pretty impossible to stop that.

The festival is held on First Nations land, a fishing village, down by the river. Due to the surrounding mountains and water, the music echoes and reverberates back into the community. I'm several miles away, and it's loud enough for me to have to wear ear plugs at night.

Above the fishing village, the entire area is dotted with homes on acres of farmland. The residents near the village complain bitterly about the noise for three days, as the music starts at 11:00am and blasts until 4:00am daily. It used to go until 8:00am, but they changed it this year in consideration of the residents. Still, Imo, if you have to get up at 5:00 am, a 4:00am closing isn't much of a reprieve.

Last night, one of the local farmers posted in our local community fb page that one of the over-indulged ravers, half naked, had entered his property, let all the young dairy cows out of their pens, and was herding them around. The said partier then proceeded to go for a swim in their manure pit, at which point he was cornered, hosed off and arrested.

What on earth would possess anyone to swim in pit of cow manure? Ewww! Gross. Fortunately, neither the cows or anyone else was hurt - and one can only hope the guy is made to go back to the farmer and apologize and forced to work his farm for awhile.

I get that people don't like how many of the cows are kept these days, but this is someone's livelihood, and they are in compliance with the industry standards. Many of the farms out here do not keep their cows penned up all the time, and in fact, let them out in the fields for the summer. We used to put our horses 'to bed' at night, so it stands to reason that the cows are brought in for their evening feed and 'bed' at night.

Regardless of anyone else's opinion, the farm is owned by the farmer, and anyone trespassing should be prosecuted. The judge should have a field day with this guy, that's for sure.

This is definitely a story worthy of the Darwin Award. You just can't make this stuff up.

Protest or half-melted party brain?

Idiot, anyway!
Obviously that person was a total fruit loop.
Jim - who knows?! I'd sure hate to be the cop that had to put him in his car. barf
Bear - undoubtedly! One thing I'm so glad of is that there was no social media around when I was young and dumb. rolling on the floor laughing
Imp I'm glad that there wasn't any media around either..laugh
I think of that A LOT, how happy I am there was no social media around when I was young and dumb.
Bear - yup! thumbs up It's bad enough people have memories. lol
Imp I'll second that one too. There are some things I wish I could forget but unfortunately the news is obviously all around us.
Fay - you and me both! Omg - I bet some of these kids are thinking that social media maybe isn't such a good idea. lol.
Drugs are the major economic component of such events, to suggest otherwise is ignorant at best. Clearly the event is being held in the wrong place, and the promoters should pay all costs and compensation.
Pat - absolutely agree. This isn't the appropriate venue for them, and the only reason they have it on First Nations land, is because they don't have to abide by the laws of the rest of the community.
No doubt the first nations folks are being handsomely compensated for it. The best way to deal with it , is to have a zero tolerance approach to the drugs side of things. Not easy if law enforcement is also being compensated.
Pat - I can't say definitively, but I doubt our law enforcement is being compensated. Our police force is the RCMP - a federal entity. They are not allowed on First Nations land without permission (in fact no one is). First Nations have their own laws and are essentially, land unto themselves.
Hello LadyImp,wave That sounds like quite the event, doh Definitely NO respect shown for the community. I ve always believed to get respect, you have to give it.
So you set up road blocks with drug dogs, especially in the lead up . Then you drug test every driver entering and leaving. Word will get around and less people will go next time. Eventually, it will not be financially viable.
Hi 1to1! wave

I concur. And no, there is zero respect shown to the locals. I wonder how that pounding bass all night for three nights affects the dairy cows? I know it aggravates the farmers and residents, big time. But I'm curious as to whether it affects the cows milk production. It'd be interesting to find out.
Pat - you're hired! Great suggestion. thumbs up
Electrify property fences with a little more voltage at that time of the year.thumbs up
I find this funny..I'm trying to imagine a guy swimming in a pit of cow manure( I had no idea farmers collected cow manure) the face of the policemen and then trying to hose him down. I feel sorry for the one that had to drive him to police station.
I think they should give this man work collecting manure for the farm as he seems to enjoy it.
I would have had such a blast there when I was 20 yay
Rogue - I suspect that the guy by-passed all the fences and went down the lane directly to the barn. The farmer might want to install a metal electrified gate though - at the expense of the trespasser.
Track - I had my fun at those kinds of events when I was 20, but now that I have to get up at 5:00 am for work on Sundays, my appreciation for that has definitely waned. While I have no objection to them having a good time and a festival, it should at least be in an area that doesn't disturb the entire community.
Your right, it should be away from the population. Be better for both the population and the party goers as they can party all night long.
@Imp:
Fay - you and me both! Omg - I bet some of these kids are thinking that social media maybe isn't such a good idea. lol.

If not they will think of it at our age. I would never run for politics because the past is to easily dug up and judged.
