I read the 1921 edition years ago and now re-reading the 1956 revised edition...

A mind expanding perspective on history that reforms whitewashed accounts in history books.

Good for anyone that questions the myths perpetrated to maintain the status of religions and governments through the ages.

*** "In order to understand mankind, we must look at the word itself, "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? Maybe we'll never know.." ~Jack Handey

Wells” Herbert George Wells is perhaps most well known today for his science-fiction novels but it was "The Outline of History" that initiated a new era of popular history. Although the harshest critics were from those who disagreed on ideological grounds, it's difficult to dismiss the depth of Wells' insights and prophetic accuracy. E.M. Forster and Beatrice Webb both praised the book on publication. It was this very book to which G.K. Chesterton responds in "The Everlasting Man" as does Hilaire Bellock in "A Companion to Mr. Wells's "Outline of History." "In re-living the entire life of Mankind as a single imaginative experience, Mr. Wells was achieving something which they themselves would hardly have dared to attempt ... In fact, the purpose and value of Mr. Wells's book seem to have been better appreciated by the general public than by the professional historians of the day." - Arnold Toynbee 1934
