She cried for a Mother who had long forsaken her.Whom she had remained a stranger to even in death. Strength failed Gracy and her heart fainted in her chest as memories of her Mother's sickness crippled her and she knew her Mother had found peace but as for her ,she was now alone to face the battles to come. She allowed her tears to fall. Her shoulders shaking like an earthquake, already feeling like one who went to battle and her enemies triumph over her. Gracy sunk into a pit where there was no peace for her soul.

Chapter2
The Past is ever before me.

Young, fresh and beautiful Gracy got a job at the Legacy Newspaper in the city. She was a reporter and loved her job.It took her mind off her Mother who was now at home living in her deteriorating, angry sack of dying dreams.
Her Stepfather had died and it seemed he had taken her Mother with him.
Only a year ago the interior design office her Mother had built from the ground up had closed and the once prominent woman abandoned life. Her Mother's days now consisted of floating around the house in total oblivion, mourning a cheating husband or sitting at the window, her big hazel eyes disconnected from reality in her fair, classically beautiful face.
Gracy remembered times long ago when she had idolized her Mother.Seeking her approval in everything but never once got it. Growing up in the Village;whenever her Mother came to visit, she would hide behind the door and view her with reverence. The woman wore clothes straight from a glamorous magazine,Her long, straight, black hair swished around her back with a life of its own.Her voice was soft and animated,Her speech sophisticated, flawless down to the tip of her designer shoes. The sun seems to have rose and set in her eyes and her laughter was like that of a gently stroked harp. For the young Gracy her Mother was the Princess in all her fairytales, the jewelry in the King's crown. Her perfume was a garden of ten thousand flowers and Gracy wanted to grow up and be just like her.
That was then.
Now Gracy wanted to be nothing like her.
She closed her office door and falling into her chair, switched on the tape recorder of the interview she had conducted earlier.
"Mr Blake." She heard herself say. She placed the recorder on the desk and closed her eyes. Something felt awfully out of place with this interview.
"When did you last see your daughter?"
"Just Sunday." Replied a booming, deep voice much bigger than the man himself. For Mr.Blake was a small, short man of fifty years with strands of grey hair brushed back into freshly cut blonde hair. His face was slightly wrinkled with a healthy tan and his tailored suit was cut to fit.His perfectly trimmed nails could be heard drumming on the mahagony desk over the recorder. The man was nervous. Blake's Associate was a Big shot law firm, headed by this small frame but serious man and the spacious office testified to its success.
"Did she mention going anywhere....meeting anyone?"
The tapping froze.
"No but I am sure her boyfriend Thomas Morgan killed Her!"
There it was. The part of the interview that didn't settle just right with Gracy.
The teenager was missing for twenty four hours. She could have just ran away but Mr.Blake was sure she was dead. Why?
The window behind Mr.Blakes office was wide and tall.Thick brown drapes pulled away to reveal dark clouds rolling in and the carpet was so thick one was tempted to slip their shoes off and run their toes across the lush brown texture. The coffee machine had no coffee but a cabinet displayed bottles of expensive wine. Infact one bottle was half open on a shelf loaded with files and Gracy guessed he forgot to put that away, along with the empty glass beside it.Either he was a heavy drinker or too grief stricken.Checking her watch it was ten thirty in the morning. Too early for a drink.
There was an ego wall too laiden with trophies and awards. Mr.Blake was an accomplished man and didn't mind displaying this knowledge to the world.
"I checked on the boyfriend Mr.Blake. He seemed just as worried. His Mother confirmed he hasn't left the house since Friday with a bad case of asthma.Called in sick at school too."
The man frowned. It was blatantly clear that he disliked the boy.
"Why do you say he killed Her?"
"She broke up with him over the phone Friday. I was ease dropping on the other line." He inhaled deeply."Then I heard him say if he couldn't have her nobody else would."
His fist clinched as tight as his jaws.
Interesting ,Gracy thought. Somehow the boyfriend didn't mention this piece of information. Between his desperate pleas of please find his girlfriend and sucking on his asthma pump,he was obviously consumed with worry.
Gracy had had enough for that day. She switched the recorder off and reached across the desk to shake hands with Mr. Blake.
"Thank you for your time Sir I will stay in touch and don't worry the Police will find her."
"Thank you too."He said.
Was that a squeeze? Gracy was sure he held her hand abit too long and was sure there was an intimate squeeze to her palm. However the man had a sixteen year old daughter missing,or,Gracy hated to admit it...but could also be dead too. Sure he may just feel overwhelmed and squeezed for support.
She switched off the recorder.
Outside her office door was the constant humming of typewriters and the busy traffic of feet. The smell of ink and paper all familiar to a newspaper office and she loved it.
She had another hour before she was to take her Mother to therapy.
She thought it a shame that her Mother was burying herself alive. Tormented by unresolved issues and secrets she suspected even from the Village. For her Mother often babbled about going to the river to wash, giggling in a strange, teenager secretive type of way. There were nights she cried out in her sleep . The heartbroken screams strangled like a tortured animal.
"Where are you!" Came the desperate screams from her room.
Where was who ?Gracy thought, pulling the sheet over her head.Who was her Mother looking for even in her dreams?
