This is one of the best known American graphic novel, and is always cited as an example of the possibilities of comics as an art form.
It tells the story of the author's father in the concentration camps during WWII. Spiegelman uses caricature to represent the horrors of the holocaust (Nazi are drawn as cats and Jews as mice), which gives the story a surreal and intense quality than a realistic depiction could never have aachieved.
