RE: Gabriel Garcia Marquez: Cronical Of A Death Foretold

Yes, it is a great strory, indeed, as most of Marquez's books are but , still, I think "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is his masterpiece, moreover, it is one of the best books ever written.

A damned good piece of literature. Certainly an enduring classic and a good example of moral integrity.

RE: Dave Pelzer: A child called "IT"

My heart goes out to Dave Pelzer for what he went through as a child. Once I started reading, I could not put the book down. Not for the fainthearted..

RE: Oxford Press: Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary

I know what you mean, I have copies of the last two editions of the Simon & Schuster's Spanish-English Dictionary...and of course, the new edition.

I don't have this one, and this is a "must".doh

RE: Gabriel Garcia Marquez: Cronical Of A Death Foretold

Another powerful story, with Macondo as the background. Any and every book ever written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a "must".

Excellent!

RE: Oxford Press: Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary

omg, this is a classic. EVERY student training to become a teacher of English must have it. I still have my own bound copy, printed in the 70`s. A common joke among my colleagues is "Show me your Learner`s", because we can know the age of the owner by just looking at the cover.
(I collect dictionaries...lol)

I read this book years ago and it continues to be one of my very favorites. It's a novelization of the life of Marco Polo. It's a compelling read.

RE: Dave Pelzer: A child called "IT"

Ladies Ladies (and gentlemen) if you are not sure you are ready for a child please use protection. There is no way on the face of this earth a child should go through what Dave Pelzer went through at his age. His books are great but heart wrenching to know that they are true stories.

RE: Jane Austen: Northanger Abbey

It's a wonderful book, and it's especially funny given how Austen mocks the typical Gothic style, but I really don't like Henry. He makes fun of her the whole book, baits her, scares her, laugh at her and then, when he finally does marry her, it's not necessarily out of love for her so much as out of duty since she fell in love with him first! Plus, Catherine is much more perceptive than Tilney in her own shy, innocent way. It's a good book, but Persuasion is infinitely better. I'd take Fredrick over Henry any day :)

RE: Sophie Kinsella: Confessions of a Shopaholic

Read her book 'Remember me' which is alco very good.Highly reccomend the author 'Claudia Carroll'.She's very good.

RE: Jane Austen: Northanger Abbey

I read this novel when I was 13 (it was required reading in high school in the UK ) and of course, it has the Austen stamp: the usual characters, the balls and fickle relationships. What I loved (and still love) about it was the Gothic angle. At 13 I was completely drawn into Catherine's experience in the Abbey...because I had a wild imagination myself.
