Remember that shooting in Alabama a few weeks ago?

10 people got killed.

I joke about rednecks, but I'm not joking now.

My ex wife just contacted me and said:

'I bet you hoped I was one of the ten people who got killed.'

I said:

'Of course not'.

It turns out though that one of her neices was killed by the crazy gunman; the neice had just gone and paid for gas in a petrol station in Geneva and walked out of the shop and got shot dead by the maniac who'd killed a few people in Samson then driven on ten miles to Geneva to finish his killing spree.

I didn't know this particular neice, but I certainly feel sad for the needless death of a young woman whom my ex wife surely loved.

It is happening way too much. We just had a 20 year old man sentenced to life in prison for killing his mother, stepfather and younger brother. Why? Because his parents would notpay for his romp thru Europe beacuse they have to pay for his college and the younger son's college the following year.dunno

Very sad.

It's always shocking when these things happen but we also get slightly immune to them because 'news' always happens to 'other people'.

Like I said, I am not in any way directly affected........... but I do know a person who is affected, obviously, as she was my wife not all that long ago.

Good grief! I just can´t believe these stories.

At the risk of offending the US members, I can honestly say that these incidents are relatively uncommon in Europe, thus I am always shocked when I read these things which seem to be a part of everyday life in the USA.

sigh

Yes, it's very sad. If I'm right this is the guy who later shot himself? Too bad.....the cops should've shot him.

Sadly, I think you're right. I can't tell you the last time I DIDN'T hear about someone from my city being murdered on the news.

About 15 years ago we had a big massacre by a gunman at port arthur (Australia). The gun laws were changed overnight so that it is very difficult to own a gun in Australia.
End of problem.
Criminals still get them but the average loony who gets the urge cant walk up to the corner store (as in America) and buy one.
People are not surprised at what happens in America because of the ridiculous gun laws

I was once told that when you make it illegal to own a weapon, then only the criminals will have them.

I am against any kind of violence(it is better to avoid any situation that could result in violence). I can see it is hard tho for people today when, as it is usually the case, the "Block Buster" movies are loaded with violence. Even childrens shows are prone to violence. Not blaming the media persay since they don't come to our homes and turn on our TVs for us.
