I grow so weary of hearing day after day people of all ages and gender using this as an excuse.
men and women loosing jobs because of economy. yet, when offered job that pays half and they refuse it because of what they have done or earned in the past... Get a clue, is it not evident to you types that what you did was not good enough or perhaps your own selfish greed is what put you in the quandary you are in.

to tell the truth I am not sure it will ever end. we are taught by schools, the government, and in every faccet of life that we deserve and are entitled to so much in life. what we are not taught is this, the way I was raised if you want somthing work hare and you may get it some day. A hard days work for an honest wage. I was raised by parients that did not believe in entitlement, they had to go out and work hard for what they had, and they expected me to do the same. this in my opinion is the problem today, parents just give too much to thier childern, hence the childern expect it in life, to be handed what they want.
this is of corse just my opinion and eveyone has one so please dont be offended by it.

At a local Walmart there were 10 openings for their remodel. $10 to 15 an hour. They could not fill those spots. People would loose their unemployment and gov handout benefits. However, not everyone is a pig/hog. One woman told me her husband took the short term job because he would rather work for his income. Pigs want to roll in the mire and collect free money.
This type of person will never go away. As long as people are alive some will believe life owes them more than they are getting. I truly believe this is part of their behavior makeup. The world will alway have con men; scammers, lazy people and people who don't live in the 'real world'.
BebeII: Actually, I'm thinking about some of my own extended family who go to charities to take what they really don't need, and who could work but don't.
There are real issues here which unfortunately get expressed in very prejudiced and negative terms. Republicans go on about welfare spongers and Democrats about intolerant, selfish Republicans. Both have a point but there really IS a big problem with dependency culture and with the cycle of poverty/handouts/non-work. What fair and decent way is there of dealing with it?

Any constructive ideas?
Yes, it is a real problem to concerned people. Some seem to think it's a racial issue and that confounds me, but it's a tough question. It encompasses economics, culture, education, incentives/disincentives, trade, etc.-the whole kebob. It depends on the circumstances of why someone is on hand-outs. Are they physically/mentally fit to work? Are they having child after child while not receiving child support? Do they have a spotty work history? I think incentives have to be dealt with first.
mindfful: i wish people really understood where ghettos come from
and ive lived in a few and ive accepted the handout a time or two so whatEVER
The word ghetto first applied to the Jews who were often physically walled off from gentiles in European cities. Stangely enough, this caused them to excel in those fields they were allowed to work in.

Hmmmm seems some folks DO know where the word "ghetto" came from.
