Some do it so that people won't see that they've viewed them, especially if they're checking out the profile of someone of the same gender for some reason, like an interesting pic or comment.
I just don't give a rat's fuzzy who sees me on their view list. I think the women know I don't swing that way, and the guys know that it doesn't mean much since I'm just here for friends and forums.

Viewing the same gender will not appear as "viewed" anyway. Not if your settings are seeking someone of the opposite gender.
