On 1 May,May Day celebrations are held to hail labor and international worker solidarity. The day saw big celebratory events in the years before the democratic changes in Bulgaria. After the collapse of the communist regime in 1989 May Day has continued to be one of the official holidays, but is no longer that important for central government. It is honored mostly by socialists, communists and the trade unions, with the grand concerts and rallies of the Bulgarian Socialist Party taking central stage. laugh

I guess it's where you're currently at, is what I was thinking. (I've been away from B. Scotland for many moons, and I doubt I could ever live there again.) So, in my case not GB, but BG! laugh Also it's all EU now, you know.

That's why I'm posting this (link to a) pic here.

I went out this morning to a bigger village, which has a cash machine aka atm, and following that, came across this dude and donkey, walking along the road. This is the main road and it's right alongside the River Danube. Romania is on the other bank.

Where are you going, I asked him?
Istanbul.
Where have you come from?
Belgium!
At that he gave me a friendly wave, and I fancy the donkey smiled too, and they were on their way.

Sixteen people have been killed and another twenty injured as a bus sliced into a throng of tourists near the town of Yambol in southeastern Bulgaria.
The tourists, gathered in the area on the occasion of the religious holiday Ascension Day, or the so called Spasovden, were climbing towards the Bakadzhik peak, when the bus, coming in the opposite direction, cut into them.
Police said a technical malfunction caused failure of the bus's brakes.
The bus was a thirty-year-old charter coach, which had recently passed successfully a technical check-up.
Reports say people, who are gathered in the area for the holiday, are in panic and are worriedly searching for relatives and friends, if they have not seen them for the last few hours.

On Sunday the International Olympiad in Informatics opened in Bulgaria’s second largest city Plovdiv. The competition is under the aegis of President Georgi Parvanov. Students from 84 countries have joined the event. The idea for an international Olympiad for high school students belongs to Bulgarian Academician Blagovest Sendov and was presented at the 24th UNESCO General Assembly in 1987. Two years later Bulgaria hosted its first edition. So far the country has joined all editions of the competition with the total of 77 participants: 67 of them have won medals – 14 gold, 28 silver and 25 bronze ones. yay

Nothing much happening here. Just some Muslim folk objecting to Swiss people wearing red Tshirts with a white cross, cause the cross offends them. But thats in another Canton, not here in my area.

I got a red front door mat with a white cross on it, and a pair of slip-slops, and a shopping bag, and some flags like that in the garden ....... I hope this thing doesnt spread, cause what the Swiss gonna do with all their swiss stuff decorating their flower boxes, and number plates, and caps, and sports cushions?

Oh, maybe they`ll just have to change the national colours and their flag, huh? .... keep the asylum seekers and refugees happy.... confused

It`s puzzling how Humans just don`t enjoy having any peace?

Seems they always can find something to fight about?

Just goes to show innit? Working in a grain silo can be just as hazardous as flying these days?
