Farron Hall, a homeless man, watched and saw a teenager fall from a bridge, in Winnipeg, into the swollen and fast moving Red River. Without hesitation he drove into the river and swam to the youth to save him. Yes he did save him, by pulling the youth to shore. A friend and another homeless man help pull both of them onto the shore.
Often we hear all the nasty things, about people who are at/near the bottom of the social ladder. Here there are two homeless men. A native first nations man, an alcoholic one, without hesitation does a most heroic act. He has showen us a true action of love for a fellow man. I can only hope that I can rise this kind of action when called for. I know that I would have not jumpped into the river. (I can't swim)
Read about this in the morning news. He is definitely a HERO. Imagine his being brave enough being the best mother's day gift that teenager's mother could have received. Her son is alive, and she can celebrate that instead of a funeral, lots of questions, sadness, guilt or anger.
Quote from Story: "This is a man that most people would avoid at all costs, who is kind of scary-looking," said Willis. "But he just had both the courage and the humanity to not even think about it and just plunge himself into the water to save a life."
I do hope that the media will not be sticking it's nose into Mr Hall's life, and following him around ... or there is "invasion" that builds him up, then tears him apart, and makes his life worse. I wish him all the best, and if over coming what ever has sent him down the path he is on, is what he wants, wish that for him too. Deep inside, he is a good person and was very honest about his downfall.
Faron Hall is a hero. As bad as his own life is, he still had compassion and was brave enough to save that teen. The teen almost caused both of them to be drowned. I do not know if I could be as brave as Mr. Hall.
That is so cool. Heroes are everywhere indeed and sometimes in places we least expect it. I had not read this in the news so thanks for hauling it out. I love this kind of stuff as it restores my faith in mankind.

So true loner. Glad you posted this as I'm not sure how far news like this gets. It's actually a good news story - not necessarily the type that sells papers (no blood, guts and gore and no negative human drama).
KHD100: Mr Hall was on the news today. He was still upset and worried about the young man he saved. He cried when he said he had to slap the teen on the head when the teen panicked and almost drown the both of them. He felt very bad about that.
He said he did not want a reward. Mr Hall mentioned he would like to see a football baseball game. He spoke about his past.
He had the guts to do what he did. I hope all the attention will not make things worse for him.
The mayor of Winnipeg has given him an award anyway. Since the mayor is the owner of the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball team, the mayor has given 2 honoury season tickets to the baseball games.
His step daughter also spoke of her pride of his action. She hopes that, this will him in dealing with his demens.
