Some people call midday meals Lunch & evening meals Dinner. Other people call midday meals Dinner & evening meals Tea. It's much down to background, For myself we start the day with Breakfast, have dinner early afternoon then tea about 6pm.

I asked this question once why do some say dinner at dinner time and others say they are having there dinner in the evening i say lunch for dinner and evening meal or tea for the evening i got explained it like this whichever is the biggest meal of the day this is the dinner so if you go out and have a Sunday dinner it is generally in the day time whereas someone who works and takes say a packed lunch in the daytime when he/she gets home they have their dinner so basically it's the main meal of the day so you can eat a dinner at any time kids have school dinners and most workers have dinners in the evening say 5-7

As a child we had breakfast, dinner was at lunchtime and supper was in the evening. That was in London. How's that for confusing?

My first husband (I have been married and divorced twice, I love wedding cakes), came from Stoke on Trent, a couple of hundred miles or so from London. His family called them brakfast, lunch and tea was the evening meal. Supper was a 10pm snack.

Very confusing.

The UK is small, but every 20 or so miles the accent changes and although the UK could fit into the size of Texas I think, it is extremely diverse in culture, traditions, behaviour. There is a lot of snobbery about accents too.
