Did anyone watch the movie last night entitled "Into The Storm"?

It was a overview of Mr. Churchill during WWII.

I knew nothing about him except that he and President Roosevelt worked together in the war.

I have a better insight as to who he and Clemmie (his wife) were but knowing how Hollywod does things, I'm wondering if he really was as grouchy, arrogant and impatient as the movie portrayed him to be.

Do those of you in the U.K. think the movie portrayed him fairly and accurately.

I just read an article about his son....also named Winston Churchill. His is a small plane pilot. Use to fly
human tissue flights all over Europe in a light aircraft.
Including flight operation near the border in Germany when
the cold war was going on.

He recently needed a angel flight here in the US for a cancer
operation. He said it made things even......

He looks a lot like Winnie. Pic did not have him with a cigar....or a English Bull Dog.

Hi Corinne.......wave

Nah I didnt see it unfortunately.

This guy was a man and a Half.

He was the right man in the right place at the right time.

A lot of people didnt like him before and after the war, as he was an autocrat, and when not in time of war he didnt tend to get his way, when he wanted to.

But he (I think) was recently voted best Britain of all time.

He slept very little durin the war and he used to sign all his commands to his Generals with the words

''ACTION THIS DAY''

He was also a bit of a character and here are some quotes he is repsonsible for......laugh

Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed.

He has all of the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.

I am never going to have anything more to do with politics or politicians. When this war is over I shall confine myself entirely to writing and painting.

I am prepared to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.

I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Thanks Vinny for the quotes. Now that I've seen the movie I can visualize him saying them.

You said that he hardly ever slept. He was very stressed during the campaign for a second term as Prime Minister and had a heart attack that is wife nor he never knew about it. The doctors and his aid thought it best not to tell him. He lost the campaign and took it personally. Yet the people loved him and he got Britain's most prestigious award. Once he knew that the people loved him he was able to relax.

I think most people appreciate Winston Churchill. Up until the most recent presidential election in the U.S. there has always been a bust of him in the Oval Room in the White House. For reasons I don't know, President Obama took the bust out of the Oval Office. I find that very sad.
