My mother took her own life at the beginning of June 09'. I have spent these past few weeks looking after all the details of two estates and trying to grieve during the pauses. I met a woman online prior to this, and took myself off that site for a while. Just wondering how long a person should wait to pursue dating after something like this has happened. I have got my bearings back, but know that there is more to come.

Sorry for your loss. Everyone is different. We can't bottle grief, cap it, and place it on a shelf after X number of days or months. Mourning periods are not the same for anyone, even for different deaths in one's life. Only you can answer when you can and should start dating again.

Thanks all. I feel okay about getting through the grieving part, I have loving family and friends.

I guess my question is how long should you wait to put yourself out there? I know what lies ahead, and I know that I can manage it with my supports. It is a much different experience losing a parent rather than a grandparent or aunt/uncle.

I am very sorry to hear of your sad loss. The grieving process is very different for everyone. The way they grieve and how long they grieve varies also.Just because a person is getting on with their life, going out and living doesn't mean they have forgotten their loved one who has passed on.It doesn't mean they don't cry when alone,so do what you feel is right for you,not what someone else expects of you.
