I think we need one! An odd question thread.

Here is mine. If a person makes you a sandwich, do you look inside it to see what the contents are? I do and I was told I was rude! I like to see the food I am eating. What if it has artichokes inside, I can't bear those in my mouth.

In a way I can understand it is sort of saying "I don't trust you". So the way I would do it is "Sorry I have to look in the sandwich because I have this thing about knowing what I eat." or "I have to look because I am allergic to so many food types that it's not funny."
professor It solves the problem and yours too.

Interesting you should say that Wooffy, because the sandwich maker told me that it was a matter of trust! I tried the 'I like to know what I am eating line' did not work.

I think it is habit too Marki, something that I cannot help. Same with a cup of coffee, I inspect it and put my spoon in and see what colour it is. I mean, I know it is polite to leave things we do not like, although I do seem to keep this under control when at a dinner party! But if it is really bad, then I do find it hard to keep a straight face.

Lovely Lady,
Totally acceptable as far as I am concerned. Your body, your right to know. I am always allowed to do it without impunity because those who know me know of my food allergies. I'm like Marki's friend. I do the 'sniff' test on everything. ya...so sue me..

Are we allowed to ask any odd questions on this thread?

Yes, ask away! Thank you, I think so. I like to know what I am eating.

But what is all important is how you say it. You have to say it and then open it.... not open it get a reaction and then try to apologize. Guys are strange creatures professor

No, I wouldn’t look inside a sandwich, but I would ask about the contents… not because I’d give a damn about it as I’m not allergic to food as far as I know, but just to show appreciation.

A newlywed couple is at home at a dinner table. The young wife, just to keep conversation floating, says:

Darling, you know, I’m not that good at cooking… I can make only two dishes: cake and soup…

The young husband looks into his plate with some doubt and asks with some hesitation in his voice:

Honey, don’t take it as criticism or some such… you know I love you… but I’m just curious… is it soup or cake?

Rhetorical question to which there probably is no answer. Or perhaps the answer lies in different culturally acceptable 'personal space' requirements and I, having come from a land of loads 'o' land have not yet adapted to the more minimalist requirements of Europe...Okay..

Why is it that in a supermarket line up that is 8 or 10 people deep, the person behind you feels it necessary to actually push right up against you whilst waiting? Will this make the line up move more quickly? Will this endear him or her to me or the person behind? It makes me mad and brings out the ugly in me. I will often turn very quickly with my backpack and smack the person. And then sweetly apologize...It does make the person step back a bit.....angel

Hum, you are aren't you? I'll do that next time. I should perhaps not have picked my way through the salad either, you know how it is with a fork, inspecting it? I am terrible, I know. But you see, I know that if I put something in front of them and they opened it, or picked their way through it, then I would not feel in the least bit put out!

I am very protective over my kitchen, the only reason I let my children in was because it was the law! grin Not that I am mean or punitive it is that I am a bit obsessed about food storage!

Oh, I am pleased you asked that one, otherwise I look like the person who is completely mad! Why oh why do they do that? It brings out the ugly in me too, one guy did it to me and I told him that the mouthwash was in aisle 13. Not pleasant of me, but I cannot bear my space being invaded. Especially with strangers!

Why do people look at the phone when they are mad and hang up?

Do they identify the phone with the person in question.

And then slam it down 3 times and chuck it and even keep yellin at it when the line is already dead...laugh

You're the best Sommer...wine Oh, I wish I could come up with a witty line to get them to take a step back, but my Dutch is minimal and the things I have learned have only been the niceties...with a few very bad swear words inbetween.

Have you ever watched people on carphones they go through all the motions they would do as if they were talking to the person live. One other thing for the people who do talk on car phones. I once taught a deaf girl to drive and asked her (she could lip read) if she could understand what the guy behind us was saying on the phone . "pretty well all of it, yes" she said.
I thought that was so coolrolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
