buy some pens and pencils
already on it! Wow I have so much to organise! Man...but you know what? When your life has a direction at last then the work becomes less tiring...I read somewhere that once the deciding is done the doing becomes effortless - aint that just the truth.
Wow...have to call my family now....mixed reactions there as they thought/hoped I'd be coming home to Scotland but this means I'll be away for another 4 years at least :)

Congratulations Suzy I hope you enjoy the experience. cant offer any advice just enjoy it
Don't be surprised if your first semester or two of classes seem remarkably similar to your high school classes. This is especially true if you were taking advanced level classes in high school. Most of the first year of college is survey classes to weed out people who really are not prepared for college and to catch up people whose high schools may not have had as advanced of a curriculum. Be patient and take advantage of the refresher in some classes to give you time to finish the work in the classes that you didn't take in high school. For example, if you were someone who took Biology in high school you probably won't have that much trouble with your intro level science, but you might be overwhelmed by the 15 books you have to read and write papers on for your English survey. This also works in the reverse. Remember, most schools want you to be well-rounded so they will require that you take at least one introductory class in every subject. This can be lots of fun though so enjoy it. After all, you never know when you might take that required class and discover a new passion for Art History or Anthropology.

Doing a bachelors in public management...
to be honest the refresher courses will be great for me as I haven't been in high school for 11 years now, and haven't studied full time for more than 6 years....so I need all the help I can get and have no issues with going over it again believe me...it's a bit intimidating to go to uni after such a long break from study but I have a good career behind me and will try to approach it like my job....a lot of the stuff I will be studying Ive already been paid to do for some years now so I'm hoping that will help whilst giving a more in depth insight

Here's hopin folks!
Make sure you have a study plan, keep notes, I still refer back to my teaching notes from University now, I have them all and they were all written in pencil, dated and filed chronogically.
You must be thrilled Suzy, it is fantastic news.
Study plans are very important, as a teacher, I am always trying to drum it home to my students, (I work in a boarding school, so study hall is taken there).
Notes are one of the best things a student can have, I treasure mine and have loaned them out with a threat that if they are not returned, I will personally hunt them down.

After you take a couple of 'easy' courses and know you can do it, take some out of your comfort zone. Use college to learn and to develop a lifestyle of accomplishment and completion. Hang out with the smart 'kids' and sit next to them. Many times professors assign group projects. If you are sitting next to smart kids you might be grouped with them for the project.

Good for you, Suzy! Blessings. My advice is not to take more classes than you can handle with your family/job situation so that you don't overdo it on the stress. Take a couple of courses to start, and be careful of burn-out. Don't forget you still need "me" time.

I so totally agree with you Sommer. Taking notes. Understanding how to take good notes. Studying from those notes are one of the keys in getting through college.
There's a lot of good advice already given - but the advice given to me when going into Uni was (1) it's what you learn from DAY ONE that counts - NOT what you cram in, in the last term. (2) Make good friends, generally, but particularly with the one who can take copious amounts of notes - then photocopy them and from experience - join Campus Societies which are of interest to you and can benefit you, both accademically and socially. They are most likely the people you will work with, or need, during your career when you Graduate.
Remember, University is the beginning of a continuing advanced learning process - experience comes afterwards ........ so enjoy every minute of it, and study well - you may never get such a chance again.
You never said what you were going to Read at University. I noticed from your profile that you're a 'Libra' so 'failure' is NOT an option to even be considered Enjoy every minute of it and study well - not hard. Ohhhh and the odd Prayer wouldn't do any harm either

Yes - you are absolutely right. I've got no intention of overdoing it and buring out before the finish line
