Do men still do things like opening the car door, pulling out a chair for you at dinner, waiting for you to pass through the doorway first......?

Do women still appreciate things like this? Does it still have value?

I taught all of my sons to be gentlemen and perform little courtesies as they go through their day....you would be amazed at how many have thanked them for doing so and how many women have asked my sons out! It works; everyone likes being cherished if even for a moment!cool

Although I'm very capable of doing things like opening up the car door, pulling out my own chair during dinner and having men waiting for me to pass through a door first,it makes me feel very very special. And in appreciation I do make a point of thanking them.It doesn't take that much time to show someone who does a nice gester by showing appreciation.

Some do, some don't. Does it have value... that's a harder question than meets the eye. I'd say that in and by itself, it means nothing other than showing curtesy, but even that isn't necessarily meaningful. For example, if the man opens the car door for me and then whispers something obscene in my ear, the gesture was clearly meaningless. So I'd say that the value of these gestures exists only in a greater context - i.e. the entire evening or event will have to be on the level for it to be meaningful. typing

A lot of men still open doors for ladys and I appreciate it. Opening a door still has value to me I expect it. If a man is a true gentleman he would do it all the time it shown respect.

I like it, but sometimes is isn't convenient. I'm flexible.

What I REALLY hate is for a man to open the door, walk in and then 'allow' you to follow behind.scold

Here in Sweden men seldom do that. And although I can do all that for myself, I do appreciate when a man holds a door for me or offers his hand when I go off a bus.

Yes, it makes a very positive impression at once.

I think that men still do all of those things, but they are very hard to find.... I think that when a man opens a door for me and pulls out my chair for me, he is showing me respect as a women. I very much appreciate it.

I do that without thinking. Also I would always walk on
the outside of the sidewalk when my woman's at my side.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

I do those kinds of things for my boyfriend and other men all the time.

It's just my way of showing them just how much I appreciate what they do.Showing respect is a two way street.

yeah right, men dont do that stuff anymore, and often if and when they do the woman is dork enough to take offense, because she is "independent" and can open the door by herself...

me, I expect that and if the man doesnt have the gumption or wherewithall to do it, I send him packing.

I think the reason why some of the men who don't do those kinds of things were probably never taught how to treat a lady.

Or maybe it's because those men had been turned off by other women who never appreciated what they did for them.
