Forget "balanced diets". Ever since I can remember, I've gone through food phases where I will eat almost nothing but one thing that I really like for a week until I get sick of it. Then, depending on the craving, I'll eat something else that I really like for a week and so on. I've gone through pizza weeks, pastry weeks, chocolate weeks, spaghetti bolognese weeks, liverdumpling weeks... and now I'm in a yoghurt week ...

Obstetrician might be better if you have cravings!
USThumper: Tell me about it. I eat a lot of junk food cause I dont like to cook. Its real hard to lose when eating that stuff.
Oh ya. Worse yet, the junk doesn't make you feel full, so you eat more of it. Strangely enough, I don't recall ever having had a salad week or a tuna week without mayo week

On a more serious note I have never had phases regards eating.I do eat sensibly due to a cholesterol problem ,but I love cooking and even though I live alone I eat really delicious and different meals. I think sometimes its your lifestyle that dictates what you eat.Being retired I have all the time in the world to cook whatever I fancy.

I've been having a mashed potato phase since 1990. Have them every day. I go through pickles and jalapeno phases, where I have them on everything, cept for cereal! You are not weird, cause if you are, then I am. I refuse to be weird!

Yes, on a more serious note, I quite agree with you in terms of lifestyle dictating eating habits. I've lived almost my entire adult life "on the go," eating out a lot and maintaining absolutely no dietary discipline. I think it's fab that you enjoy cooking and that you have the leisure to cook whatever you please. I once spent a month at a hotel with full fare and it was wonderful having been served 3 different meals every single day. So I can totally appreciate what you're able to do for yourself. I can't imagine myself cooking though because I don't have the skills or the patience Old dog, new tricks, you know
