Has anyone here from Canada declared bankruptcy?
What do you have to do and how do you go about it?

Check the yellow pages of your telephone book for a trustee. There is something called a proposal that is a much better option. It means that you pay back a certain amount to your creditors (depending on income) and to the trustee, but if you have a car or house, (any secured loans) you can keep them. Just some things I learned at one of my jobs. Your best bet is to talk to a trustee and see what is best in your situation.

Good luck and got my fingers crossed for you.

I only knew of the web site because in one of my jobs I had to pass on this information. Not every one is advised to declare bankruptcy. So who ever is having to deal with financial difficulties, wish you all the best.

Many Canadians have been forced to declare bankruptcy due to the economy. Only way to go now is up. (JMO)

Going through an accountant may save you money vs. a firm that just deals with bankruptcy's. I was also advised that proposals don't make you look better than filing bankruptcy. Ask questions, such as how much can a vehicle you own be worth, and if your house doesn't have much equity in it.........not worth selling. Bankruptcy is VERY common these days. Through circumstances and bad luck, it doesn't take much to not be able to financially recover. Life does go on afterwards, just don't expect to be able to build up your credit, or get credit again anytime soon.
