But mostly happens when IM crashes, which it does alot. Sometimes it's just a hit and run.

My problem is when some people IM me and I very nicely let them know that I am a little busy they still go on and on and then I have to cut them off and I hate doing that.

I turn mine off occasionally, but sometimes I turn it back on unless someone wants to chat. I don't mind chatting with people, but just say something. You know.

I answer some of these IM's and they never say anything but "Hi." I think they have more than one conversation going on at the time and that just makes me ill.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate people that IM me. I will take the time to talk with anyone that IM's unless they are being disrespectful.
But it cannot be a one-sided conversation. If I IM somebody I have questions in mind that I want to ask to get to know them. I would expect that whoever IM's me would be the same way.
I have been having a problem lately with people that IM me then never say anything else. So to stimulate the conversation, I will ask a question. They will answer and say nothing else. That's what is so irritating. I can't be the one talking all the time, especially if I didn't even IM them.
When you IM somebody you want to talk with them and get to know them for whatever reasons....dating, friends, penpal, so on. So I just don't understand why people IM you in the first place if they have no intentions of talking with you. Just send an email and say "HI" if that is what you want to do. I'll usually respond to that too.
