actually CM it seems that seniors over the age of 80 have the same probability of causing a crash as teens within their first 3 years of driving

no I do not text while driving. I read an article in one of my trade mags, if you do you are 25 times more likely to have an accident. this is by no means a pratice restricted to teens. I see people of all ages doing it. to the extent that the federal government is looking at a law aginst it and possibly a ban on all cellphone use while driving, and yes this would include hands free.

driving distracted, is by % as bad if not worse than drunk. believe it or not. some institute in va. diid a study, I cant find it now but when I do I'll post it.

Actually, if you do that in the uk now and there are
fatalities as a result, you will go to prison for a very
long time.

And rightly so IMO.

I want that to be the law here-don't ban cell phone use just use hands-free and if you cause an accident with fatalities than yes you should go to prison no matter what the cause

Texting while driving became a law in Utah. When there is a traffic accident, they will pull your phone records and check to see if you were distracted, if that was the case, the accident goes from a simple class C misdemeanor to a possible felony, depending on the severity of the accident.

That was a great video, thanks for posting it.

Same here. If I need to make a call, I pull over and turn the car off.

Previously if someone caused death by careless driving then they could not be handed down a custodial sentence. This not only denied the aggrieved families justice for the wrongful death of their loved ones, it also made it much harder to implement restrictions on improper driving practice such as dialling and driving. Hands free phones are so readily available now that the negligent practice of dialling and driving has been re-evaluated and now qualifies under a new law which can hand out custodial sentences to those who cause death or serious injury by careless driving.

The current legal system can deliver a sentence of up to 14 years for someone convicted of dangerous driving however until recently if someone caused death by careless driving then they would simply walk away with a fine. The case of a 14 year old Brit is a perfect example; Jessica Leigh was killed by a motorist speeding at 60mph in a 30mph speed limit and the convicted killer driver pled not guilty. Despite being convicted of death by careless driving the driver was 300GBP and 6 penalty points.

This would also cover drivers who neglect to use hands free phones or drive while unlicensed even if there was no fault with driving. So an unlicensed driver who kills a pedestrian will be subject to a custodial sentence because they are not meant to be on the road, therefore the incident would not have happened if they had obeyed the law. The same principle is applied to people who do not use hands free phones, as if they had obeyed legislation regarding hands free phones the accident would not have happened.

Regardless of this new legislation, many people still
insist on using their phones whilst driving.

sigh

heres a thought, maybe we should make the general motoring public abide by and face the peanlitys that us truck drivers in the US face if involved in an accident. first off you go for a drug test in any accident. if it is a fatle accident they check the ECM, our GPS, our bank accounts, our cell phones and anything else that will tell them our driving habits. sleeping habits. and if we were rested and safe to drive.

how many times have you got behind the wheel of your car not 100% ?

my point is just that if people would think and use some common scence when driving we would all be better off. no intent to offend anyone. I just see too many accidents every day from people being stupid. just last week there was someone going the wrong way on the interstate in Ia. and at least one person died. did they desreve that?

Had a guy on a motorbike change lanes in front of me without singaling and I doubt if he was looking.

Yesterday a lady coming off a sidestreet kept coming straight at me and if I hadn't seen her and honked she'd a kept coming into my door. I also noticed she was slightly bent down in the drivers seat.Cause after I honked she raised up.
