Sobeys Symphony Under the Sky

Sep 04 to Sep 07
Concluding the summer festival season in Edmonton is Sobeys Symphony Under the Sky. Taking place Labour Day weekend, September 4th – 7th, 2009, this annual festival is sure to delight concert-goers of all ages, by bringing the invigorating sounds of the ESO to the beautiful river valley setting of Hawrelak Park. Charismatic Conductor Bob Bernhardt returns to lead the ESO in five outdoor concerts that will celebrate the 15th annual outdoor festival of orchestral music. Over the course of four days, audiences can sample the varied music programming presented by the ESO all through the concert season. From classical masterpieces, operatic classics, Hollywood movie favourites, and a tribute to Sinatra, there is something for every musical taste and style!

Labor Day is next weekend. I think I will put a picnic together and spend one of the three days off at Elk Island National Park. If anyone hasn't been there and likes to walk in nature, then you really should go. It's great and there are lots of trails.

I live 5km from the north gate. It's a nice place, and have been there many times over the 30+ years I've lived in Alberta.

Still drive through once in a while on the way home from the city, even though I don't have a park pass, so usually at night. Nice to see things the way they were before people inhabited the area, started farming and developed it.

Keep your distance from the bison (buffalo), especially if you're on a motorcycle, they can get a little aggressive at times.uh oh

Otherwise, enjoy your weekend.wave

Northgate??? ... and no one as met you there for coffee yet???

See lots of buffalo on the way to Whitehorse. More fun when Brian has to slow down the truck because they are in the middle of the road.

Hi Kimwave

Nobody comes out to Lamont, not even people I've known my whole life.laugh My dad and my brothers are different, everyone else seems to think it's too far out from the city.

Gotta watch the wildlife on the highways, they have no clue about road safety, and for some odd reason happen to be right in front of you at the last possible second.

Sorry Kid, I do not drive or own a car. That is my excuse.

AC/DC concert was so loud last night, we did not need tickets to the concert, we got to hear it all for free while sitting at home. grin

I know, this summer I got awsome photos of bison. I am only 5ft tall and the ones head was up to my shoulder. They are absolutely beautiful. I have tonns of photos from that trip. I go as often as I can.

:( My excuse is I just don't know the country. When I go for drives I make sure it is straight. God forbid I get lost out there somewhere. Getting better though, I actually found my way to cooking lake south this summer and then got back to Edmonton. Woo hoo. lol It's going to be a hot few days so everyone enjoy the weekend.

Awww, that's just a lil' feller. laugh

I was riding through there on my motorcycle one night with a friend, and had to stop for the bison crossing the road. I thought I was far away from them, until I had a couple dozen surrounding me, some were way taller than I am, and I'm six foot plus.

They didn't seem to like the sound of the bike so I shut it off, and waited for them to go on their merry way. Had a couple big bulls within two feet of me, just staring at me, breathing heavily, and freaking me out.uh oh One brushed up against the bike, and I thought I was going to get knocked over, but luckily didnt.

You don't realise how big they actually are until they're right next to you, and how massive their heads are until they're staring you right in the eye.wow

No. Westjet now flies to warmer places. With beaches, sand, girls in bikinis and those drinks you get with umbrellas. And when you say, " Where's the snow? ". They look at you funny.
