Never. I am fortunate I suppose.
I have suffered the reverse though, more than once. It is difficult to tell somebody you do not care for them in the same way, particularly for somebody like me who hates hurting another persons feelings.

I wouldn't know, but if giving your opinion causes hurt then you appear to have no problem.

The truth hurts, but less than lies and if you pretended to love somebody or at least pretended to feel for them more than you actually did then that's insincere behaviour and not nice and living a lie and going to cause ultimately more hurt than the truth.

I did not say that I had lied, nor pretended to love anybody, I said that it was difficult to tell somebody that your feelings were not as strong as theirs. It is possible to have a relationship where one is more enamoured than the other, no?. I´m sure you have experienced this in your long dating history. I bow to your experience. I met my ex husband at 16 and stayed with him until my forties. I do not seem to have your track record so enlighten me.

I did fall deeply in love with someone. I thought she felt the same about me...at least she said she did.
In the end, I don't think she really did love me. It took me a long time to figure that out and it has helped. But the months of pain I went through when she broke my heart was real.
I am not sure if that was technically unrequited love, but it was close.
