smoky: Ja, some people have no imagination! ... and those with it, do things others wish they had done!

Have you ever noticed that "the harder you work ... the "luckier" you get?"..according to some folk......

Yes, what drives me mad is folk saying 'oh but you are so lucky...you have everything'. they dont realise that that 'everything' is all due to hard work and a few sacrifices along the way.

Lucky in my definition is when you get something without putting any effort in, like winning the jackpot....you never know I might still get lucky....still hoping anyway!!

Exactly!

I had an old friend in SA, she bought this run-down condemned chicken farm, where squatters had lived in the house making fires on the open stone floors, about 5 acres of head high grass right up to the front door, everything broken down, etc etc...... She and her husband cleaned up, scraped all the walls down to the original stone farmhouse walls, she mended, sanded, painted......planted new lawns, landscaped the gardens, turned the old chicken houses into motor workshops for the husband ...

... and when the 35,000 buck place they bought was valued at over 3,000,000 bucks ....the village folk all kept saying "how lucky she was"! She would get almighty pissed off if she ever heard that!

smoky: What`s your style of indoor decor? Do you have a particular style...? Are you happy with your way of decorating where you live ....?... or you just happy to have a bed to sleep in, something to cook on, and a roof to keep you dry?

Have you actually gotten around to satisfying yourself with how your home is decorated?... Or are there things you would like to change?

Humans, even proto-humans, decorated their 'home'surroundings. From Altamera in Spain 20.000 years ago to cave drawings and paintings scattered all over the world people have decorated their homes.

Since these ancient milestones societies have increasingly and accleratingly sought to not just improve the amenties of their homes but the decorative aspects. Eventually as civilisation grew - or regressed you might say - religious institutions drew in all the economic surplus into creating amazing and astounding edifices to the glory of the current gods.

The surplus product of civilisation was for thousands of years given over to the the edification of kings and gods. Only since the last 500 years have individual dwellings of the majority of people been given any priority.

Today, practically every one of the millions of magazines in the world concerning life-style have double page advertisements of interior decorators or architects.

Is the post author thinking a launching a for profit business in interior decoration by a clever strategy of subliminally insinuating herself into the members of this group....she's a hustler, dont forget.laugh

Of course! Everyone here knows I`m a hustler, and I also specialise in plagiarism - My last business was called "Con-Artist Inc". It was very popular. I made simply stacks of money from conning people into thinking I`m an Artist!

How else would an "ordinary" person retire to buy property and live in Switzerland?grin

Oh I love it when I see you on one of my threads. Before hitting the button to see what you`ve written, I take a bet with myself. Now...... has he managed to come up with something original invented by his own brain? .... Or is he digging out some good quotations from some books? I flip a coin, heads its his own head, tails its the books ... but I always lose, (or win - depends which way one looks at it).... cause I fall into a heap laughing at whatever you wrote! You just SO funny!rolling on the floor laughing

I prefer a minimalist style. I have lots of black and white with touches of burnt orange in my lounge. No carpets, it is too hot here anyway, and I think much healthier without them.

My kitchen is silver grey and blue with splashes of lemon here and there.

The bedrooms are bright, one pale blue and white, another pale green and cream and the third a combination of pale blues, greens and cream.

I have a study which is the only room where the colour scheme has not been thought out too much. The walls are covered in pictures of my kids and students, and I have books and teaching materials spilling from the bookcases. It´s a nice room though.

thats always my problem too.. I've had some great ideas over the pst years, but by the time I have figured out how to make the "wahatever", I am no longer that convinced that this is what I want, and move on.. sigh

But I have made some progress lately, and have fitted an LED shelf-lamp thingy in my bathroom, which is super relaxing, as it gently changes colours over time..

One way to solve my indecision problem is that I am fitting litle dolls houses, currently I am getting well ahead on my 50's style house, and that means I can experiment with different styles without totally upsetting my house every time.. wink

(Funny thing about the marketing accusation earlier !!laugh rolling on the floor laughing laugh )

LUCK
Labour Under Correct Knowledge

some say,..

but sorry to rain on your parade,- there are many who work very hard and due to some bad luck don't have much to show for it..
So I guess, in a sense they are 'just' lucky,- but in the end, nothing comes from nothing.

My decor is just fine, but then thats because I don't have a woman in my life to bring some colour to it.

I have always been crap at colour schemes, although applying it is not a problem, so I would rather leave the choosing to a woman and then apply it to her satisfaction.

Will change the decor when a woman walks in to my life !

Hm, my style... not sure I have a particular one - it has seemed to change over the years a bit. I love interior decorating, only thing is, I have moved around so much - between countries and from home to home in the same country too - that once most of the boxes are unpacked, and I have got the home somewhat organized and functioning for the day-to-day use, and I can concentrate on the fun part of decorating - it is time to move again!! confused So part of my decor over the past year has been moving boxes. laugh

Right now I am living in a new apartment, with just the bare necessities to start with - but it is still fun to try to at least match the one cushion on the one sofa with the one rug, for the time being. dancing
