Conrad only tells FACTS.

My health insurance here costs me 300 Sfr a month - the "franchise", being the first costs to me, are the first 300Sfr in the year - after that the HI pays 90% of whatever.

The less you think you will see a doctor or have medical costs, the less your monthly amount can be - but then you get a very high franchise - something like paying for the first 1,000 Sfr.

One has to be careful though - a friend of mine never goes to the doctor, so she dropped her insurance down to the minimum, I think it was about 90Sfr a month .... and then got hit by having to have a stomach operation!

Children get special rates, and 100% of costs are paid by the H/I - of course parents also get a monthly allowance for each child added to their income (children in Switzerland are Special People)

Yep. Japan does. Germany, I'm fairly sure, does. I believe several other countries do as well - google it and see for yourself.

Incidentally, I agree with your opposition to mandatory laws. In principle, not only will health-checkups become mandatory, so will certain health rules such as regulating what you eat.

In a science fiction novel I read once (I think it was Harry Harrison, but not sure), people were fined for excess weight. That is absolutely in accordance with mandatory insurance laws.

Think of a government which fines you for eating too much sugar, for instance!!wow wow wow wink gg

Free Health care is really free in Malta.... every Maltese citizen is entitled to free health care. We have government owned hospitals and clinics with free medical services.

Not yet, but they are trying to move out this new law. But for our old folks it would be just a tragedy if only government wount reimburse some finances.

i come from a third world country, and sure enough the goverment is yet to regulate any kind of health care program that would benefit us in the long run. so i can't share anything about mandatory health care.

i do however am interested on the health care in the UK, Canada and France. Anyone from those countries would care to share about this? do you pay monthly or is it part of the tax you paid? Cause i think their health care system is very good -- in terms that you don't have to worry how much the bill is going to cost in the end--
