What about sharing some practical householdy type hint-things here?

This week, I dredged up some ancient memories when confronted by a bunch of tarnished old copper-ware ........ and remembered an old friend who`d told me a very quick and easy way to polish it - using just vinegar and salt.....

...So I poured some strong vinegar into a bowl, and a small heap of sea salt ... and using an old kitchen sponge, dipped it in the vinegar, dabbed it into the salt, and HEY PRESTO ... wiping the copper just cleaned off the tarnish!

Then into hot soapy water to wash off the acid stuff ...... and drying it - it emerged shiny as new and sparkling clean - without all that rubbing one has to do with commercial copper cleaners!

It cleans brass too.

Want to sweep a tiled floor and pick up all the small bits?

Forget the broom!

Use the thing you use to mop the floor with.

Tie cat to floor mopping thing and wipe floor with cat; you'll be amazed how much dust the cat hair picks up!

Empty cat over balcony (or it will replace dust back on your armchairs etc).

Cat is self-cleaning! dancing

rolling on the floor laughing Well, why not just smear some bacon fat all over the floor and then the cat will lick the floor clean?... or ... if you realy lazy, then tie a fresh fish to the cats tail and when it goes crazy trying to get the fish off its tail it smears the fish juice all over the tiled floor, and then later the cat should be licking the juice off, and thereby licking the floor clean.....?dunno Ditto the furniture ....... Afterwards you can just throw some Lavender Oil around the place and combined with the fish smell ..... dunno ... could smell rather interesting?drinking If you drink lots of Vino Collapso then you may not notice any smells at all.....

smoky: Don`t forget, if you using loose tea and a teapot, to put the strainer with the bulge facing DOWN. Actually, don`t forget to put your glasses on otherwise you can`t realy tell which way the strainer is facing, and you could embarass yourself, should you be in the company of a normal human being, who is unaware that you a member of CS, and thinks you also a normal.

When making a mug of coffee in the morning always place mug near the coffee jar or you'll spill most of the coffee granules on the floor. Also move mug near to milk so as not to spill milk over floor taking to coffee. Also hold mug in both hands and open mouth before attempting to drink as missing mouth makes attempting to drink coffee a messy business.

All these tips are especially important if you've tried and failed to drink smoky under the table the night before! rolling on the floor laughing

Never mind all these facetious remarks by A Robert above .. this is a very serious Thread, and your grandchildren could be using these useful hints and tips in centuries to come - assuming they not living on another planet somewhere.....

Now, to get Realy Serious.... Serious serious .... APPLE CIDER VINEGAR!

If you live in a Hard Water Area .. you know this horrible water that Germany and Switzerland have that is full of something called "Kalk" which I think means Lime, that leaves white residue in your kettle and shower and around the taps .... then Apple Cider Vinegar is the Answer to all your problems.....

Top up your shampoo bottle with this vinegar and your hair will stop falling out, stop being all frizzy and dry, and begin to feel all soft and silky after washing it......

If you get that white fungus stuff growing under your toenails then soak your feet once a week in a few spoonsful in a basin of water before doing your weekly pedicure - You DO do a WEEKLY pedicure dont you all? If you dont then you should otherwise your doctor is going to remove your nails and you wont have toenails for the rest of your life! (Do disinfect your nail-care clippers/scissors/file/etc in the pure vinegar otherwise you keep infecting yourself).

When you launder your towels, launder any face-cloths as well (if you got the under-nail-fungus-thing) and instead of Fabric Softener ADD THE SAME AMOUNT OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR to the Softener side of the dispenser (of automatic machines). Sorry I dont know what you do with other makes of washing machines.

If you ever get the Internationally Famous ITCHY EAR syndrome - then mix Apple Cider Vinegar with "Swimmers Drops" (for `wet`ears)- (it may be just Surgical White Spirits, but check with the guy behind the counter) (available from reputable Pharmacies) and this cures it...... 100% guaranteed!

Okay, back to your most favourite Presenter A Robert for more Useful Household Hints and Tips .........jackolantern

Fill the bottle with hot water, to the required level of where you want the cut.
Then stand in cold water immediately. !

some ideas here.
Thanks Conrad, but it all sounds terribly complicated! I`ve tried different methods in the past, and nothing works for me - so now I will give up. I just love re-cycling things - but I reckon now is the time to call it a day!grin

Except ... back to my vinegar story. If you dilute your dishwashing liquid with neat vinegar - it cleans much better!.. and it disinfects too!

AND flies HATE the smell of vinegar - so wipe down cupboards and kitchen counters with it neat on a cloth.....cheers

Cotton wool balls soaked in vanilla extract placed in the fridge will keep it smelling lovely!

Mind you, you have to keep it clean with bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice in the meantime...oh and remove all the mouldy old food.
