Ginger!!

Be very careful of online scanners, they are often spy software, only use a genuine antivirus suck as Comodo or Avara, google free antivirus and then access the sites directly not through a third party.

This is for Conrad too. Don't know if where you live makes a difference, but AVG went pay-only last year. I have always had AVG, (well for the last 8 years or so anyway). It will scan now but it will not get rid of anything you have on your computer unless you pay.. Why would I make a point of taking the time to say this if it were not true?

Avira and Comodo are really good ones that are free.

What you don't get with AVG 8.5 Free

* Protection against identity theft, hacker attacks, infected downloads, infected instant-messaging and spam
* Protection for business computers, networks, and servers
* Support from AVG technicians (although user-to-user support is available at AVG Free Forum)

Sounds like that is a new version but what use is it, if it doesn't even protect against the basics?.....

I use Firefox sometimes and IE others. Depends what programs I am running.

Tried most of those online scanners in the past but just stick with ccleaner for the rubbish and Avira for the anti-virus scans.

I have Comodo on my main computer, and although my son (the expert) doesn't like it, I find it competent for what I want it to do as a firewall and anti-virus.

Everyone to whatever suits them I suppose.wine

I've used this one and it found rogue files that were associated with ZLOB DNS changer which were plagueing me for a long time. Other anti spyware programs couldn't find them.

You might also check out F-Secure.

On line scanners have serious limitations.

I would get a good AV to run from your hard drive then scan in safe mode or if you have the ability download the WIN-UBCD, update the AV and anti-spy products, burn to CD or DVD then run that to scan your HD.
